Arc was full of it. Like, Elk flat out busts out "Let's show this bitch how we do things downtown" before a boss fight and so-on.

I have awful memory but I get the sense that Working Designs eventually mellowed out on the toilet humor and pop-culture references since I don't remember anything outrageous about the translation for Growlanser Generations. I like the guy but I can't vouch for his business sense.

Wasn't Vic Ireland the guy who spent large amounts of time in the 90s being an egotistical prick on newsgroups and starting flamewars over his games? This is all second-hand but I distinctly remember hearing stories of a "proto-Derek Smart" who was from a company that was involved in translating console games from around that time. I vaguely recall it being Vic Ireland but I honestly can't remember.

Not really on Derek Smart's level though since Working Designs games were actually released in a playable state and some of them were even good!

i think it's worth noting that for the Lunar games, for the most part, all the pop culture stuff was relegated to NPCs in towns who in any other game would be saying worthless stuff like 'I love egg."

I'd like XSeed more if they had more than 1 programmer or whatever. I'm always happy buying games done by XSeed though.

In other news, I am pretty excited to play Darkest Dungeon on PC tomorrow, I hope it does not suck.

Nah, there was plenty of that in the main cutscenes too. Nall busts out a 'who wants to be a millionaire' reference while a city is being invaded and people are implied to be dying.

Lunar SSSC also had Kyle say something like "If this thing were any uglier, it'd be my butt" and make a masturbation joke at some point. The SCD version of Lunar 2 also the cleric make a masturbation joke (haven't played the PSX version yet)

And in the SCD version of Lunar 1, when you get to the garden in the final level one of the NPCs asks if you've ever heard Ghaleon try to sing an ABBA song. While it's coming from an NPC, it's still referencing the game's main baddy, so...

That said, I've seen worse:

I actually kind of liked that one, because it was pretty subtle. IIRC, it went something like this:

Kyle: Ahh! I'm blind! I thought that was just a myth!
Other party member: What is he talking about?
Jessica: Trust me, you don't want to know what he's talking about.

Isn't that game supposed to be tedious as all gently caress and generally really awful? Seemed cool way before it came out but between all the delays and reports of it being trash I never kept up on it.

Basically, yes. The Genesis original had two enemy formations a dungeon and an enemy pool that ran out halfway through the game, battles depended less on breaking the game mechanics and more on you having all your characters equipped with the item that resists the enemies' attack element, the story takes forever to get going and when it finally does it turns out to be a mashup of plot points taken from other 16-bit RPGs stitched together with cliche, and the ending is a great big "gently caress you" to the player.

In short, Pier Solar doesn't want you to play it; it wants you to sit down and watch it jack off.

(And yes, I realize I was complaining about Lunar having masturbation jokes, then I went and made one myself. I never said I wasn't a hypocrite.)

Sony would not approve releasing it unless they packed it together. Rayearth was delayed forever because Sega would not approve it unless they changed the hero names (They didn't like Fuu). Victor really butted heads with Sega and Sony back in the day when trying to get games approved. I got the sense that he had a hard time influencing/diplomacy at the time when interacting with more stubborn elements of the respective companies (Bernie Stolar etc).

I'm very happy Steam has blossomed like it has to prevent this type of poo poo though.

I finally beat Trails in the Sky. Loved it, but that final dungeon is such a terrible slog. I started a new game+ but not being able to skip scenes is just eh.

I know the second chapter isn't translated but does getting 100% affect anything worthwhile for it, or just small things most people won't notice? Like to know before I go and put another 40 hours into this game.

Cool. I wonder who's going to develop it, given that Career Soft's people are now working for Atlus (specifically, they developed SMT: Devil Survivor 1 and 2).

Also there's no way it's getting localized so I guess I'd need to buy a Japanese 3DS to play it... eeeh

Nintendo just came up with a demand to receive 30% of the ad revenue of any youtube video that uses their games, so I imagine its business department is some kind of horrifying, deformed monstrosity at this point.

It's partly because each Nintendo branch is largely independent rather than being just an interchangeable arm of the whole like Sony or Ubisoft (See; stuff like Nintendo of Europe going "gently caress you Dad, we're localizing Xenoblade"). Basically importing a game, for them, is the same as losing a sale from the local branch. Yes, it's stupid.

nothing big. you get some fairly small trinkets at the start depending on your bracer rank, and some dialogue will change depending on what sidequests you've done

probably not worth another full playthrough just for it's own sake, especially when you can just use someone else's 100% save

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.
Yes, and yes but not significantly (they fixed up some scenes that were unclear in the PSP version).

Also if we want to be technical the PC version is the original and the PSP one is the port but whatever.

I'd go with the PC version just because despite what they say I find it hard to believe they'll release the second chapter on the PSP in 2015, even with Brandish coming out recently.
