Forgiveness may be hard to enact, but it's a pretty simple concept. I'm having a bit of difficulty with the distinction between a god who forgives all sin and rewards everyone, but doesn't approve of the sinful actions, and a god who rewards everyone because they sin. There would appear to not be any practical difference? Acta non verba and all that.

So many people in this forum love to try to distort the teachings of Christianity, but they can't because the teachings are traditional and you can't change them and so they just end up looking like they have a kooky personal theory. And the disdain some of them show for me -- which they generally admit is the orthodox opinion -- I think it shows their mentality. I was hoping there might be more orthodox Christians on SA, but it seems you have all done a good job at keeping them out, which I imagine is because you are all really open-minded and progressive. Anyway, here's a few thoughts on poverty. Instead of promoting state socialism and hating on Republicans, maybe you should go out and talk to a homeless person? Maybe give them a few bucks. Let's discuss our experiences with talking to the poor recently. I talked to a guy on the street the other day who told me he has a wealthy sister. I asked him why he doesn't ask her for help? He was evasive. I told him that he should try to reconcile with his sister and that he was being proud. That he would rather live on the street than go to her with hat in hand. He rejected the idea. Then he asked me to let him stay the night at my place, which I refused. Remember: never give them anything more than you have originally set out to. They will try to manipulate you. If you decide later you want to help them more, then you can come back later. In before lots of hypocrites accost me for not letting a homeless man sleep in my apartment, which they obviously do all the time.

That's about doing it to proclaim how great you are. I just want us to discuss our experiences with helping the poor so we can all go about it better. I don't think it was Jesus's intention to forbid all discussion of charitable giving, and that certainly isn't the Catholic interpretation, which actively organizes communal charity work.

You are not discussing your experiences, you are bragging about your moral superiority. Nobody is saying you cannot discuss charitable giving, but between the Republicans aren't so bad comment and the bemoaning Social Welfare, you are making it plenty obvious that this is more about tooting your own horn.
