You can configure the nature of your auto attack in the options menu. You still need to actually press "attack" at least once per combat though. The name changed for the better

There's actually an option that leaves it as a perpetual toggle, but this is usually a bad idea since you'll immediately open fire the second you come into range of an enemy.

Thats the option I use. It won't trigger unless you actually get shot, then it goes nuts and will auto target and shoot anything in range. If that sounds annoying to anyone they probably shouldn't use it. I never watch my secondary attack cool downs so I quite like it.

The thing that improves space combat one hundred percent is binding throttle up and throttle down to your mouse forward and back buttons. Or if you want a more in-depth approach there's also a macro somewhere that lets the scroll wheel control your speed.

You can just go into Options and change the bindings for the throttle to MwUp and MwDown.

I'm curious. Of course the star of Intelligence is Surgical Strikes. However, is there ANYTHING in the first two tiers of Intelligence(Ensign and Lieutenant, I mean) that's regarded as worth anything?

Intel Team for Ensign, although I'm not sure if the Stealth buff has been fixed yet. It's something that SHOULD be super useful for Borg Disconnected. If you're not already using it in the Lt Commander slot, Ionic Turbulence is still very much one of the better debuffs in the game, even the Lieutenant version.

Yeah, you can totally load up an intel ship with IT1/IT1/OSS3/SS3 and not really be wasting anything, assuming you had a boat where you could surrender the commander slot like that (ie, pretty much just the Eclipse). Some of the other Intel abilities are fairly useful too, they just wind up competing for one of those slots and use out. It's kind of sad that Command doesn't have anywhere near the same usefulness.

Yeah it was pretty clearly unintentional scaling so I can't say I'm surprised. Real question is how badly it will be nerfed. If it's fixed to scale "properly" then it's still not too bad and science console-heavy ships remain pretty good. If the proc's nerfed into the ground, then it's back to using plasma over AP instead. I can't imagine the plasma damage bonus being removed or something, so worst case having a bunch of gold embassy consoles is still pretty nice to have and it was fun burning everything to the ground meanwhile, so hey.

 We have cadets in the Academy again thanks to our recruitment thread, and we need "instructors" to help them along their path. After submitting the lovely above report on Andoria, and for some reason liking the mission "Slaves and Seductions", but understanding the heresy in that, I have made this brave soul the lead cadet. Meaning of course he is personally responsible for the successes, and failures, of all the other cadets. I've also decided to place the Academy under Order 227 (yes,referncing Stalin's order 227) and put the lead cadet in charge of enforcing it. No step back, and any undue questions or actions are to end in instant summary execution by firing squad. I'm looking forward to seeing how these brave souls fair on their path to becoming Dentists.
