pram posted:heres something epic i learned today that i MUST share this is awesome, it's part of openssh. if anyone can't do it check that the "EscapeChar ~" variable is set somewhere. this can be done globally for the server you are connecting to in /etc/ssh/ssh_config or whatever, but I just put it in ~.ssh/config under "Host *" so that it's set for any server I connect to

Supported escape sequences: ~. - terminate connection (and any multiplexed sessions) ~B - send a BREAK to the remote system ~C - open a command line ~R - Request rekey (SSH protocol 2 only) ~^Z - suspend ssh ~# - list forwarded connections ~& - background ssh (when waiting for connections to terminate) ~? - this message ~~ - send the escape character by typing it twice

the best part of the continuous wayland fuckup is that they're reinventing the Windows misfeature where hung apps can't be moved/resized/minimized/closed/etc.

It's because a hive mind like the borg or FOSS developers have no originality. It can only create more elaborate versions of what already exists. The not for profit things the internet has provided are just better versions of things that used to exist, and people used to pay for. Everything else is still proprietary and for profit.

Suspicious Dish posted:Also, stop reading Phoronix. this is good advice that I already follow my complaint comes from various X11 gnome 3 apps making GBS threads themselves and then just sitting there unresponsive the sad thing is that Windows solved this problem 15 years ago and now you get an End Task dialog box, while Linux is just now introducing the misfeature edit: oh, and back in the compiz days when a window became unresponsive it'd fade to gray and you'd get an terminate app dialog box. I guess that feature was too useful and had to be expunged pseudorandom name fucked around with this message at 04:48 on Feb 13, 2015 |

Window decorations being responsive isn't really that useful, as long as you have the ability to kill the app. Do you really want a maximize button that can't do anything since the window isn't responding?
