Very, but you need to either splash them from below, or hit the turret and powerdunk shrapnel through the top armor. Also, never use HE below 105mm.

They managed to make an IS-2 look more like a Tiger than an IS, i guess that's something. Also I kinda liked this movie, even (or maybe because) it's more of a fantasy than a war story.

Managed to get one last ARB in 10 min before the event ended. Played allies, team got wrecked as per usual.
Then the most amazing thing happened. Me and the three remaining pubbies formed the loving A-Team and performed coordinated combined arms strikes on the remaining half of the German team. Ground forces quickly taking out enemy AA and enemy tanks getting 500kg presents pretty much as soon as they gave away their positions attacking our 1-2 tanks. We ended up winning and I've never been so proud of pubbies.
Good ending to a good event.

Just got into this and having a blast, but how the hell are you meant to kill anything with the machine gun like cannons?

Even from behind or the side most tanks seem to shrug it off like it's nothing. The best I can seem to do with it is seriously inconvenience one tank by setting half their crew on fire before they replace the slots and turn to kill me.Are they just more for Artillery spotting or is there a way to make them useful?

Also had a great moment where my Stug ran into another Stug in a city map and we both blew a track off first shot, then sat there pouring fire into each others faces from twenty meters away while we both tried to work out where the hatches were. Turns out the answer was "Top Right" and I beat them to it.

I'm assuming you're talking about the 20mm cannons you'll see on the Pz. II models and the anti-air vehicles:

1. Get the APCR / HVAP rounds as quickly as possible and use those almost exclusively. These rounds offer increased penetration at the cost of really only damaging things they come into direct contact with, but the size of the 20mm round limits any type of actual warhead so you're not missing out on much at all due to this limitation.

2. Learn the crew positions in enemy tanks and the weakest portions of the armor that cover these locations. You can view armor thickness and an x-ray model of the tank showing all components / crew etc. in the hangar (shown here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=317287526&insideModal=1), and you also get an abbreviated version of that whenever you score a hit.

3. Murder those people. Prioritize gunner so they can't hit back, driver so they can't run away, and then whatever is convenient or accessible. Once the tank has been reduced to a single crewmember it is considered combat ineffective and you'll be granted a kill.

In general don't bother going after the engine unless you only have a snapshot, and realize that HVAP is going to do a poor to terrible job of cooking off ammunition and fuel. Resist the urge to hold the trigger down on the gun and instead take rapid but aimed shots, switching targets whenever you knock out a crewman.

20mm can be really fun, especially at reserve tiers when you can wreck just about anything, but realize that it is not really representative of any of the other tank cannons so playing with it is going to require some changes to your tactics.

Thanks! Some good tips, I make the mistake of continuously trying to kill the driver I see when I need to spread the shots out to the rest of the crew.

While I'm on newbie stuff, is there any reason to keep your plane alive in the Tank Battles when you swap for air support? Most people seem to smash themselves into the ground as time runs out.

No, it saves time to crash the plane into the ground when you're out of rockets or bombs.

Ah! I wasn't doing it because I thought it might reduce the amount of air power my team had. Kind of stupid it doesn't really. At least pubbies seem hopeless with bombers, I've never seen one manage to land a hit and the rare few times I got a go I went straight for anyone camping who'd been pissing me off. Immensely satisfying if you're doing it with the Stuka too.

So I have just started playing this and it's like Red Orchestra tanks had a baby with WoT and I quite like how it plays. Naturally I am going for glorious USSR tanks to being with.

The T-34 is just hilarious fun as you can just armor troll the poo poo out of everyone you meet as you slam 76.2mm rounds into thier Nazi poo poo boxes. Just ask Shanakian how many 6 to 10 kill games I got :v: The leap from T-50 was a bit painful however as that 45mm stops cutting the butter at that level.

Is it just me or is money not at all a concern for this game even without premium? I have not been tracking my spending at all and have been amassing cash steadily.

Money is largely a non-issue but it can sneak up on you at the later tiers if you let it. I'm only at late Era IV planes for each nation but I need to watch my spending or wait for discounts before purchasing everything. Up until about Tier III I could purchase things as they unlocked but now each plane costs at least 350k lions, plus another 50k+ to put them in a crew. Upgrades scale up as well; unlocking anything basically negates the reward that I get in the round that earns it. I have almost 2mil SL banked so money is certainly there but I have maybe 8 planes not purchased so I'd be bankrupt if I got them as they unlocked. Instead I have to cherry pick which ones I want to buy and use all of the lions that I earn during Spadequest to fund the next plane that I want. Repair costs are a non-issue because I very rarely lose money, but it certainly has a huge effect on the rate of savings if you're dying without getting kills.

No clue how this applies to tanks. Or anything outside of RB for that matter

In my experience, once you're in late tier IV, you have to go fly planes in order to earn lions because the rewards are pretty pathetic. (especially if you burned a lot of your saved lions on new jets/ experting tank crews for no reason :downs:)
Thankfully, I have a nice selection of fun premiums to earn lions with.

Speaking of tanks, it is really baffling how limiting their respawn points are.
I always thought that Gaijin would make the spawn points a lot more generous in order to encourage people to buy all the crew slots for a nation/crew points.

Hey guys! I'm having a good time, what about you?

One of the first things I did in this game is blow all of my GE on extra crew slots because I had no clue what I was doing and had no concept of in-game currency value yet. I don't even play arcade anymore so now all it's done is left my hangar in an unorganized mess because each nation has a different slot that I've taken to using for my primary fighter.
