This is my first 3ds. Is the 3d really that improved from previous models? Because I'm playing through 3d land and it's loving incredible. If so I'm glad I waited to jump in. Also I'm playing through OoT for the first time and it looks great, and I can confirm that in 2015 it's still a certified Good Game.

It's improved in the sense that you don't lose the effect if you move your head or the system. It doesn't improve on the quality. And yes, Super Mario 3D Land is amazing.

So many little things about the New 3DS are great. I was working on finishing up Sticker Star today lying on the couch, and instead of having to do something like slightly move to where my cell phone is to get a hint on a section I was stuck on, I decided to pull the browser up.

It boots in like three seconds now and actually loads pages at a reasonable speed. :buddy:

As an aside, I actually really like Sticker Star. Just stopped at 6-2, probably finish the game off Thursday.

Foul villain! I do not flee. I will never turn my back on you and run away!

[he says, running away]
The 3d was great on the original version but now you can move around and actually see the images on the screen shift in response to keep the depth up and it's p great

Of course i have to be a fuckin weirdo and instead of actually playing any 3ds games in Super Stable 3D I'm playing uh... Metroid Fusion??? I guess I'm really homesick for a 2d Metroid.

Ok. So it worked. Perfectly.

I did not follow the video instructions.

1 - Replaced micro SD card with one from my old phone.
2 - Turned on the system and did the basic set up. It did not see the micro SD card at this time.
3 - Turned on the other system to start the system transfer. Chose WIFI and hit yes to everything.
4 - It took 45 mins but everything was transferred. It even transferred the games I had downloaded.

It might take longer than using a PC, but this was easier.

Some were incapable of holding the 3DS still and would lose the 3D effect constantly. This one tracks your eyes so it's harder to lose.

I will miss the stupid ability to angle the 3DS slightly and reverse the 3D effect, which made me feel like reality was about to destroy itself.

You can disable the super-stable effect somewhere deep in the settings, restoring the inverted 3d.

Can I buy a European New 3DS and system transfer a north American old 3DS to it or will all my digitally bought games be regionally locked out of my new 3DS? Is there a homebrew workaround?

I want to upgrade, but there's no chance in hell that I'm buying the New 3DSXL when it's inferior in every way to the regular New 3DS.

Nope, the region lock won't allow the transfer at all.

Weird. I can't think of any good reason to do this aside from if you had someone else watching you play the 3DS..... but you'd have to exit the game, enter settings, change it, exit that, reload the game.... so that doesn't seem a super useful thing in that situation. And as much as I like that dumb thing, I'd never want to actually disable it unless it was working wrong and going nuts. If it didn't work in the dark, I'd understand that, but goons have made it sound like the infared works great for that so.......

---

Also, some people were saying the nub was poo poo. I thought I remembered seeing some review a while back saying it was bad at first, and eventually seemed to wear in and get better... was this untrue / did the writer just get used to it? I'm still waiting for my amazon shipment of the bigger micro SD card and whatnot before I mess with mine. I have too much poo poo on my regular 3DS for a 4gb card... and amazon decided to not ship my poo poo until about 6 business days after I ordered it (and now it's delayed due to weather, ugh). I should've just done the free prime trial at this point, gently caress.

(and yeah, I could just play and not transfer everything, but I might as well finish off Layton vs Wright before forsaking everything to play MH4U)

edit:

I would imagine if there was a homebrew workaround, you probably wouldn't even need to transfer, as the person who would've wrote it would've probably have had the mindset of: "Why the gently caress should I pay for this? gently caress them I wish they made more games faster and better!"

Would be nice if that comment from Iwata a while back made them get rid of region locking.... but it probably will mean nothing until the Nintendo 5DS, which will be integrated into Iwata's body and letting him live longer.

I used to be one of those kids who couldn't play Majora's Mask without wigging out over being held to a time limit - "ahhh I wasted five minutes chasing a dead end, gotta start over again I might need those minutes" but over a decade later I'm plotting out each 3-day arc like the world is my Kanban board and the self-directed pacing is beating the socks off of Ocarina of Time.

Also, good on you for playing 3D Land, Iwata was right to recommend that people go back and try older 3DS titles with the new head tracking. If the n3DS turns out to be a short-lived upgrade before the 4DS+ or whatever, I won't mind waiting out its revised model while playing on this sweet thang.

On the flipside, you can just back up your games and saves off of the 3DS, whereas with cartridges if you lose or break the cartridge you're out of luck.

Of course, it would be even better if the 3DS had something like cloud saves on PSN/XBL, but oh well.

NEWT THE MOON

I do not like the new 3D so far. To me it is more headache-inducing than the old 3D. Great that it adjusts for my head position, but if I'm holding still it makes my eyeballs ache, so that's not going so well. I keep tweaking with the precision adjustment settings, but it only wants to look good at 14 inches, and honestly, I play at further away than that and it's just not going for me.

Everything else has been awesome, but I was really, really banking on that 3D when I bought this sucker.

That's not true, nobody's been banned from the exploit as some people on 4chan will proudly declare that they have 20+ platinum accounts and counting from abusing it. That said, they have banned people in the past for abusing CN promos like people redeeming the $30 eshop credit twice from the SMTIV+FE:A offer.

I'd probably be careful of trading/selling any CN related stuff besides existing physical rewards and codes for coins, since it could always come from an account that used the exploit.

It's pretty harmless - the only F2P element is an energy cap that replenishes every 30 minutes. I say give it a shot - you're getting Club Nintendo stars for downloading it anyway.

It's not standard for Nintendo, which is why I pointed it out.

It's also noteworthy because these sames devs already releases a Pokemon match-three game for the eShop not too long ago, so you can throw down <$10 for that game and not have to deal with any of the IAP bullshit.

The Trozei/Link game is more akin Puzzle & Dragons than Candy Crush, I hear? I don't know the difference to be honest, but Link Battle is a pretty fun game, though it gets ridiculously hard in the later stages. Shuffle seems far more slower in comparison from its introduction on the last Direct.

Trozei is more about moving stuff around quickly to keep your chains up, it's very direct in that way and there's not a whole lot to it. Shuffle lets you take your time and is more about all the RPG junk but I wouldn't say it's especially deep, either.
