Nope, they're a mess right now, apparently due to some being largely done by Nokia and others (with 1gb now standard) being more directed by MS once they took over. A potential 640, say with the 535's mem/camera specs but with the better CPU and screen of the 635 would be a great low end model now, but with either the 535 or 635 you make some rather significant compromises either way.

It's one of the only cross-platform ones that seems to give a crap about keeping the WP experience up to par with the other platforms. 5) Wunderlist. Clearer is also nice and minimalist, but Wunderlist is better all-around.

Some way to an explanation, though obviously some leaks in the watertight system: http://www.reddit.com/r/windowsphone/comments/2lxd7d/is_there_any_rhyme_or_reason_to_the_lumia/ In other news I just smashed my 1520 screen. It's a delicate son of a bitch. Once the stages of grief are done what can I do to make it whole? Youtube videos show the breakdown of the phone to be pretty fiddly but doable, though I'm confused which part I need to get off Ebay. Most of the auctions seem to be for the glass itself but it seems the replacement needs to be of the whole screen assembly.

Mr Funkface posted:Some way to an explanation, though obviously some leaks in the watertight system: You need the entire assembly as the screen is bonded. Just the glass itself is nearly impossible to install, so you aren't getting off cheap. I busted mine a while back. Ended up just selling it "as is" on eBay for $129, turned around and bought a green one locally for $380. The overall cost was about what an assembly and my pain/tears would cost, so it was worth it to me.

It's good, but I don't know that it's any faster than other mobile phone cameras. It's got a burst mode though, which allows you to take a rapid sequence of shots and then magically remove moving objects from the foreground, swap people's heads from one frame to another etc. until you've composed a shot you're happy with. It's pretty neat, but at the end of the day it's still a phone camera.

With the Denim update for the 930, the camera app becomes much faster to launch. Also, you can just hold the camera button down and as long you keep holding it it'll film 4K video. You can also use the software to pick any frames from the video you like and extract them as 8 megapixel JPEGs. I imagine this makes it easier to take impromptu shots.

For text, there currently is no way to select it, because the webview does not directly let you. I think it's a bug with the mishmash of forums JavaScript and my stuff. Edit: also remember that I have a thread for this in Project.log, so direct questions there next time.

My current phone can't keep up at all. I need to replace my current phone, but the way I see it the 930 is one of the best to replace it with currently due to camera and specs. I'm worried about win10 since it gives a big bump to the minimum specs that 735/830 will immediately become sluggish upon update.

It's a failure of usability and the extra pages and clicks bother me. I hate this. I think it has to do with the fact that there are two completely unrelated "identity services" at Microsoft... * one is Office365 identity which they call "Work/School identity" because institutions buy a subscription to Office365 and hand out email inboxes to their students/employees. I think they set it up so that an institution's IT department can manage identities/logins themselves using ActiveDirectory. * one is "Live ID" also called "Microsoft Account" and originally called ".NET Passport". This is a common signin to xbox, onedrive and a load of services. It includes an email inbox, but you don't need to use this, and can often instead just give your gmail email address and ignore the inbox that they provide. The net result is that when you sign in, the system doesn't know which kind of address you're signing in with. If it's the first kind then they have to do a separate round-trip with your institution's ActiveDirectory system to validate the login. If it's the latter then they delegate it to the LiveID identity services. Well, that's my completely uninformed notion about what's happening. I know nothing about these things and I'm just guessing. All I know is that it's confusing as heck because I have three identities to juggle... myfirstname@mylastname.com - the Office365 institutional services that I bought for my family so we could all huge and non-gmail inboxes. myfirstname.NET@mylastname.com - the LiveID I've been using for over a decade, for my xbox and onedrive and so on myinitial.mylastname@microsoft.com - the Office365 institutional services for my employer (Microsoft) And something's badly messed up because Visual Studio keeps asking me to re-login all the time, and Internet Explorer point blank refuses to use anything other than my employer's signin unless I clear the cache.

My big beef with the Microsoft podcast app was that it is wildy inconsistent in terms of keeping track of your place in the podcast. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it gets back to "resuming" particularly on low end phones and it loses your place again too. It also syncs with nothing, so unless you only listen to podcasts on your phone you are screwed. I think most of the griping comes from the fact that it's a lot worse than the 7.x podcast experience (unless you are outside the US, in which case you were screwed).
