darthbob88 posted:Seconded. My buddy recently got a kitten for his two-year-old daughter, and wisely went with my family's inbred clowder of farm cats. Princess, the one on top here, has only two settings: Sedate, happy, sitting on your chest and buzzing, and I HAVE FORGOTTEN THE TASTE OF YOUR FINGERS. She's drawn blood from me on more than one occasion, including when I just pick her up gently. She'll even chase the other cat in the picture all around the house. But when the wee baby Lizzie grabs her around the middle, Princess will quite gently push her away, being very careful not to use claws. Even when she's locked in Lizzie's room with her, she apparently is still shockingly gentle about getting away from the grabby monster-child. edit: Fyadophobic posted:http://kfor.com/2015/02/10/watch-live-oklahoma-citys-great-horned-owl-prepares-for-owlets/ kinmik has a new favorite as of 03:55 on Feb 24, 2015 |

The weird grimace they make after tasting/smelling the marmite is the Flehmen response. It draws air into an auxiliary smell organ. It also makes the animal look funny.

That reminds me of a story back from my college days. I had a friend that collected lizards for whatever reason, and at the place he and another friend stayed at he had a monitor that would wander around. they make decent low-maintenance pets. the lazy thing would rarely clean off its own shedded skin in some spots though, so it'd be walking along and just have like, a layer of dead scales just sitting on its own head. Anyways, one day the friend sat down with a banana to eat, and oh my goodness, it was the only time I'd ever seen that lizard move fast. it CRAVED that banana. It rushed over, and started jumping at his legs like an excited puppy until he gave him some. So adorable.

I have a big old man cat who's greatest pleasure in life is hunting, but I also have an adorable tiny bird. Just shut the cats out of the room for a bit. They'll whine, but be okay.

This reminds me of the little ladybug I saved today. It was chilling on the floor at my work, right on a major pathway. I'm too superstitious to let someone step on it. It didn't want to crawl on my finger and it didn't want to get off my hand onto the tree outside, but I eventually got it there. Winklebottom posted:The weird grimace they make after tasting/smelling the marmite is the Flehmen response. It draws air into an auxiliary smell organ. My cat does this CONSTANTLY. I've had cats my whole life and I was 20 the first time I saw a cat do it. She was a kitten and she had stuck her head inside my housemate's shoe, and withdrawn it with her mouth wide open and her lips curled back. To this day, she does it constantly, either in response to a smell, or after she's snapped at me and I've pulled my hand away and she still wants to seem threatening. In fact, she just did it about half an hour ago, but now she's back to being adorable sleeping at the foot of the bed.
