People recommended it earlier, but The Young Ones really is great. Not sure why critics didn't like it. It is a small story with a cool setting that was directed ok. The acting was solid too.

Just finished up with Vietnam in HD on Netflix. It's only 6 episodes, each covering a year or two of the war, but it's brutal and I could only watch about one per week. About 50% in-country action, 25% politics, and 25% family life and protests back home. It is very American-centric, and I wish it had spared a little bit of time to talk about how the North and the viet cong were really affording so many people and weapons. But that's my only real critical thought. For film buffs, it's neat to pinpoint what scenarios inspired what films--Oh that's the Mel Gibson movie We Were Soldiers, holy poo poo that's Hamburger Hill, didn't Full Metal Jacket deal with the Tet Offensive aftermath--that kind of thing. Mainly it is just experiencing the terror, anger, and futility of it all through real people's recollections and real footage. And you're a monster if you're not in tears at the end when we find out if this one woman's husband is dead or a POW and is he coming home or not. Too drat much, both to be in the war and to be back home waiting and dreading.

They don't really go into anything you haven't heard about if you have a passing familiarity with the Vietnam war, but seeing it in context is pretty heart wrenching and infuriating.

Watched the first episode of Bates motel and it's pretty drat entertaining. For some weird reason I thought it was some NBC evening show, so the rape scene kind of came out of nowhere.

Departures on Netflix. Neat show about two guys that quit their jobs and leave everything behind to travel the world for a year. Kind of on the same lines as... Long Way Around and Long Way Down. But better because Long Way Whateverway has motorcycles. So far, I like it and recommend it. They go a bit off the beaten path and see some interesting stuff, but one of the real killers of the show is one of the two main hosts Justin, who is a walking "bro" joke and has the most punchable face.  Would recommend to watch or have in the background while working or playing video games and tuning in when you hear something interesting.I am sure it has been said, but I might as well say it as well. One of the best travel documentaries I have ever watched and then re watched many times is Long Way Around and Long Way Down. Especially if you like motorcycles then it is a MUST WATCH RIGHT NOW!!! Ewan McGregor and his much, much less famous friend Charley Boorman travel first from London  to New York ....East....The long way around. Then they go from the top of Scottland to Cape Town South Africa ...Down. All of this on motorcycles. These two are a must watch.

I've seen Peaky Blinders, Arrested Development, Louie, Black Mirror, X-Files, Dexter, Freaks and Geeks, and Twin Peaks. I didn't like Dexter and hated Twin Peaks. The rest were all good.

Peep Show is hilarious, but it's an incredibly hard show to watch because of how extremely socially awful the two leads are. They have no idea how to react without hurting themselves, but they go through with their dumb schemes anyway.

Funny story, I worked on the Spartacus Blu-Rays when they first came out years ago, and the show indeed rocks. But it was very awkward to be sitting there in your cubicle essentially watching roman themed porn while people walked by. It's like no no you don't get it, this topless woman getting her head smashed on the marble floor is very important for the story...

I'll hook you up  Those companies are changing a lot -- Blu Ray is lucrative but more of a niche than DVD ever was. And with basically all shows now shot digitally with an all digital post process it's all very clean and it's gone from trying to desperately make a lovely DVD work on as many players as possible to hitting digital compression targets with no digital hits that goes straight to the distributor. But film restoration and preservation is still very sexy and nostalgic.

looks like Three Days of the Condor was recently added. It's a good conspiracy thriller, overhyped by some and overly criticised by others. It's worth a watch if you've not seen it and you like Robert Redford when he was gorgeous.
