Any recommendations for typing software?

I liked Klavaro because I didn't want to pay for anything. There are also a few browser based ones like https://www.keybr.com

I made the most progress just by doing the basic lessons that get you to know which fingers to use for which keys and then going about my daily computering with a conscious effort to touch type.

I just pulled up the on-screen keyboard (in Windows 8 I guess you can just pull up the touch-screen one) and avoided looking at my hands. I can type better in Dvorak than QWERTY and pretty decently now in Arabic, so it's working. :v:

I want to recommend Mario Teaches Typing because that's what I used, but there's probably better stuff available now.

Thank you, Implied Consent, for helping with my DSS question.

Another, possibly harder question :

Is it possible to protect a folder itself from accidental deletion WITHOUT preventing the files within the folder from being deleted?

Example : All incoming files from a user are sent to the folder F:\Files\Incoming\To-Be-Processed\

Once processed the files are moved to a different folder F:\Files\Incoming\Already-Processed\

The folders need to be protected so nobody accidentally deletes either folder, but the files within the folders are constantly being accessed and edited/moved/deleted (in case of duplicates)/etc.

Can this be done within Windows or is some special software needed for it?

Has anyone been able to upload songs to Google Play Music using Chrome and the Play Music extension? I tried several times to upload a 17-song album (totaling 80MB), but no matter what I do it never gets past "Uploading 0 of 17 songs". I even tried leaving it to run for 3-4 hours thinking something might just need a long loving time to do its thing, but when I came back it hadn't changed at all.

Here's some console output from the Play Music extension's background.html:

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this - the things that jump out at me are "Skipping file" with a mention of the path at which the various songs were found, and the warning about being unable to find a unique id for path /media/iTunes (despite this being a fresh installation of Windows that iTunes hasn't been anywhere near). Any ideas? I'm on Chrome Version 41.0.2272.74 beta-m (64-bit) and the Play Music extension is 1.258.111.

Delete the extension, clear Chrome Cache, re-install extension and try again.

My friend is having issues with her windows 8.1 install again. I built a computer for her on black friday and everything was fine for like a month before she started getting the infinite restart/installing/repairing loop. We reinstalled windows using a flash drive instead of the disk and it was fine again for a while, now she's getting the same problem. Is there anything else we should try before RMA'ing the hard drive?

I'm not actually sure, since it's been restart loops/freezes rather than bsod's I just figured it must be either the windows install or the harddrive. I don't really know much about software so I could be totally wrong.

Advanced NTFS permissions. On the root folder, remove delete permission. Add delete subfolders and files.

Speaking of this, anyone know how to fix the installer failing to populate the language list? I download and run the MediaCreationTool.exe, hit yes on the UAC prompt, but I can't progress on the "What kind of installation file do you want to create?" screen because the Language dropdown is totally blank. I get nothing but garbage when I try to Google the issue.

Hey guys, sorry if this isn't the best thread for this.

Long story short I needed a computer after my second Macbook crapped out, and since I'm tired of the hassle of Apple repairs I wanted to switch to Windows. A work acquaintance was actually selling a custom build around the same time for cheaper than what I was going to buy, but the guy's kind of an idiot and left all of his stuff on here (he even left his porn for me to find :psyduck: )

I want to do a clean reinstall but unfortunately his copy of Windows 7 Ultimate is :filez: which means I can't do that, or upgrade to the legit copy of Windows 8.1 I have. Is there a way to do that or am I just going to have to suck it up and buy a product key? And at that point, should I go ahead and upgrade to 8.1 anyway or keep 7? Everyone I know complained about 8 but aside from an awkward UI it logically seems better specs wise.

Buy a 7 or 8.1 key, whatever you can get cheap - you'll be able to upgrade either way for free to 10 later in the year.

Edit - Alternatively, you could always pretend you don't know the key is files and use Magic Jelly Bean to find the key then do a reinstall and hope the key activates. (It probably won't, but hey, worth the shot)

I've got a legit unused key and 8.1 disc from a friend who just didn't want to change from 7, it's just not letting me use it since the OS on the machine isn't legit. Would buying a digital key work or am I going to need to get a 7 key and then upgrade using the disc as normal? I called tech support but it wasn't terribly helpful and they couldn't give me a clear answer.

E: clean install worked since there wasn't anything I needed to save anyway. Thanks everyone!

Just get your files off format the thing and put on a fresh copy of 8 and be done with it.

Maybe you have a really unusual use case, but why exactly can't you just pause the video yourself before launching or fullscreening the game?
