Looping back to the "how will they go after Hillary" question, there's an interesting article on The Atlantic (http://www.theatlantic.com/features/archive/2015/02/among-the-hillary-haters/384976/) that goes into how various scandals/attacks have affected Hillary's popularity over the years before turning to examine the attack strategy from the right (it's actually kind of crazy).

It's a long read, but it's also a good sign of how hosed up politics are.

Ben Carson isn't getting support from the establishment GOP who have "strategy", his candidacy is entirely grassroots driven - people who like him and his message, but aren't very concerned (at this stage of the process, at least) with electability or governance.

The GOP grassroots doesn't place a very high premium on choosing the electable candidate: Romney only barely broke 50% of the popular vote in the 2012 primary, despite his opponents being Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul, and despite being the only candidate left in the race for big popular vote states like Texas and California.

Geeez. HRC's private email was run out of a server in her home.

quote:

The computer server that transmitted and received Hillary Rodham Clinton's emails — on a private account she used exclusively for official business when she was secretary of state — traced back to an Internet service registered to her family's home in Chappaqua, New York, according to Internet records reviewed by The Associated Press.

The highly unusual practice of a Cabinet-level official physically running her own email would have given Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, impressive control over limiting access to her message archives. It also would distinguish Clinton's secretive email practices as far more sophisticated than some politicians, including Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin, who were caught conducting official business using free email services operated by Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc.

They went through a lot of effort and expense to keep her email off government servers. This isn't a confused tech-illiterate old woman registering for a Gmail account.

I don't necessarily think that there's any deep dark secret hidden in the files. But barring some exculpatory circumstance, it's pretty clearly a cynical move with an eye on this election. She didn't want to leave a record that anyone could use against her, no matter what it was.

How many thousands of man-hours were put into the multitude of Benghazi hearings, which included a ton of her email communications? And NOBODY (on any side) noticed that she wasn't using an official email? That just seems like a downright odd thing to have missed, especally since the GOP was desperately hunting for something to pin her with.

Unless they're only allowed to criticize her based on theatrical reasons but would get horribly slapped down if they actually tried to make her look bad for legit reasons. Given how many people were obviously aware she was using it, my guess is that this is a smoke but no fire situation. Either that or it's similar to how everyone didn't want to criticize Brian Williams for his puffery and now it's turning out that a lot of them were probably doing the same poo poo and didn't want to get called out for it.
