of course you can trust linux the code is right there you can also trust gcc because it's open source as well the real question is can you trust that the binary you download is made from the source code you audited I compile the kernel and gcc by hand just to be sure

Perplx posted:I compile the kernel and gcc by hand just to be sure This is right and good. Linux is the most trustworthy OS. Rather than being written by a team of corporate shills, its written by a disparate collection of corporate shills who keep each other's agendas in check. The bazaar is the one and only way to develop trustworthy software.

I then used a magnetic tape recorder where you can enter 1 bit at a time to craft a tape like a digital artisan. This tape was loaded into a processor crafted from TTL circuits and copper wire on a very large breadboard. The tape mechanism was read via another TTL circuit that implemented the functions of a tape drive. 5MB of system memory was implemented using extremely dense flip flops and Mux/Demux ttl chips. Less important memory was implemented with 5mb ram chips verified via microscopy. The computer operates at ~3mhz. This is how my completely trustworthy computer was made. I keep it in a large faraday cage so the adversaries can't flip bits with extremely precise emf emitting devices.

If necessary I can craft all of the components out of op amps and transistors.

But I do not have a way to ensure the adversaries have not turned me into a manchurian yosposter. How can you trust linux if you can't even trust yourself.
