Apparently Branflakes got a new position as part of the Player Relations Team for League of Legends. I normally wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, but I think Bran has earned it.

I'll take "why would they hire Branflakes" for $50 and "why is the position vacant" for $100.

Oh, League of Legends. Yup.

Dual Beam Banks are fantastic, and with the Omni beams you can have all your weapons firing.

But omni beams you mean turrets? Would it be worth switching from a good cannon build to a beam build?

No, there are a few beam arrays you can get with the [Omni] trait, which makes them fire in a 360 degree radius. Turrets count as cannons for skills, you don't want to mix beams and cannons and have to split up your boff powers.

Specifically, though, the only time you can have two omni beam banks of the same type is antiproton, where you can equip a normal and an ancient. Two AP omni and a Borg cutter beam in rear plus five AP dual beam banks in front can make for a crazy powerful Avenger, though.

You know what's sad? Go back in time, before the changed queues, upgrades and the T6/T5-U systems... and I bet most players would have been behind making characters for this.

That's true. Back a year ago leveling an alt was such an easy and quick prospect that I would absolutely have done it just for an interesting quest chain. Now the thought of leveling anything just makes an 'uhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh' noise come out of me. Level grind, spec grind, rep grind, r&d grind, doff grind, get boffs, get ship, pay for ship upgrades...

I just ground up 4 new dil mules a month or so ago. I don't relish the idea of power leveling another character.

Essentially, there's nobody left working there to make extensive new content, so the answer is to make everything old new again. At least for a month.

Pretty much. Delta Rising absolutely destroyed the previously alt-friendly nature of STO and Cryptic apparently doesn't even realize it.

Or rather they seem to be realizing it, but rather than solve the actual problems (specialization and XP in general is bullshit and there's no sane way to keep more than one character leveled) they do this instead. :geno:

Looks like just playing through the Breen arc will get you all of the rewards, and that's easy enough. I agree that they're pointedly avoiding the actual problem, but at this point, you just have to take it or leave it.

Yeah it takes 160 loving thousand xp for a single spec point. Even if you're rolling in space money to cover the cost of top-end gear increasing by about 1000% that's still a massive timesink barrier that just cannot be overcome. I might level up and extra contra mule or two if the bonuses are decent though since some of them are supposedly account wide.

The only reason I'm considering it is that I'm basically coming back to the game as a total newbie all over again and have no level-capped characters with time investment sunk into them anyway.

I literally have a level 15 dude, so it's like a day of casual play to just re-roll him when this starts to get the perks from it.

Stop being a bitch and just level your spec points through doffing like all the cool people do. No one's forcing you to smash your face into sector patrols over and over and over.

I did a search on the exchange, can find [arc] beam arrays / cannons (which you can only equip ONE of on a ship?) but not [Omni]'s.

Just "out of stock"? I bought a few of the ARC one's before realizing I could only put one on (duh!) but I was able to relist, so hopefully they will just sell to some other sucker.

What's best to put on my Presidio for now (in the interim), and then later on?

Do a search under weapons for: omni-directional or just omni

It's not a trait but a name.

Even with constant crits on gorn oppression you're looking at a spec point maybe every two days. If you're not getting those (and a new alt with poo poo doffs won't be) it's going to be a lot longer. And if it's a federation alt, you aren't getting poo poo in spec XP from doffing ever. If you haven't been keeping up with specs since Delta Rising hit it's going to be basically impossible to catch up from doffing alone, especially if Cryptic keeps adding new specs every 2-3 months.

You can and should be able to get spec XP at a decent from queues and normal gameplay, and the fact you can't is a huge loving problem.

I leveled from 50 to 60 entirely via doffing. I have not done a single DR mission.

I have less than 10 spec points, that's how lovely doff XP is for for grinding spec points as a Fed.

Thanks Monk.

I have put 5 points into Intel as I have used the Phantom Intel until now, is that kind of a waste? (As the Presidio is I think Commando Slots? - Haven't really spent time with it yet / flown it).
Should I just use the Presidio with my Science Officer (no specialisations yet, also leveled) rather than my Tac Toon with the Intel points?

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Intel's the better of the two primary specs at the moment, may as well go and max it out. The spec selected doesn't really have any relation to the ship being used in any case, so don't worry about that.

It depends on your focus, but I've found maxing Pilot should be first. Rock n' Roll is no joke and can be game breaking at time. Of course, if you do nothing but ground you'll want other stuff, like Commando.

Both of the secondary specs trivialize their respective gameplay regions, pretty much.

Being able to knock people over while sprinting was nice for Khitomer In Stasis, at least.

I really think that escorts should have a set of maneuvers like this built in. And raiders even more (or with less cooldowns). A skim sideways maneuver, a zip forwards and back one, a spin around...

I'm already doffing for contra on a bunch of alts and for xp on a select few. Still leaves me with a bunch of alts I used to play who have like 15 doffs on their roster that I just don't care about anymore and absolutely no desire to add more characters to the pile.

This. There's a 4 trait limit and I don't want to replace anything that I already have. Sure some pubbies will go for it but how many are really still playing?

Also I really don't want to log in without a good reason and so far the "please boost our metrics" event isn't one.

If numbers are truly as dire as we suspect, there's a good chance future "events" will basically just be like this one because there's no money to create new assets that aren't lockbox. I would not be surprised if future lockbox ships start to recycle lockbox bridges to cut down on costs.
