I'm seriously considering trying HBO Now for a few months. How often do they alter their movie lineup?

Netflix keeps your account around after you cancel so I wouldn't lose my queue, right?

I'm never in danger of running out of stuff on Netflix but it rarely feels like stuff I absolutely want to watch. Maybe being away for a few update cycles will make it feel fresher.

Outside of HBO series (which is a ton), a lot less movies. You will run out of movies you want to watch if you use it like you might use Netflix. But if you like their shows you have a ton to see.

I'm assuming that it's the same content as HBO Go so I looked through the website. Percentage-wise it might be the same amount as stuff I want to watch on Netflix, but that only works out to like 5-6 movies total since the selection is so much smaller. On the other hand, if they cycle through them fairly fast it might not be that bad. A lot of those movies I can't imagine Netflix ever getting, either.

But yeah, it's obviously mainly worth it for the TV shows.

God i hope its the same as hbogo it would be such a gently caress up to have a different selection. They have Poltergiest 2 and 3 yet not 1.

Whoops! Very true. So everyone could watch it on launch, but having a dedicated app is exclusive to Apple TV for three months. Obviously a good marketing win for Apple, they also teased that they're going to change more with the Apple TV in the near future so this might be to sell more boxes short term.

And as someone who has HBO Go, I'd say between that, Netflix and Hulu are my three go-to's. Hulu has current TV, Netflix for deeper catalogue, and HBO go is like game of thrones, whatever show is airing that's decent and probably 3-5 excellent movies available to watch at all times, 20 that are decent, 30 that are terrible.

They get new movies like halfway through the month as well as on the first of the month. Usually when something expires something else takes it place.

Yeah, it was too on the nose cliche. As for the movie, I didn't find a single short that was as good as my favorites from the first movie, but there also weren't any as bad as the really awful ones. Definitely more even in quality. The tone is still all over the place, but 2 seemed to have a higher concentration of "artsy" shorts, for better or for worse.

I particularly liked A, D, O, and R.

M gave me a nice laugh, but yeah, overall it was just mediocre.

For those that are curious, M is for Masticate. The majority of the short is a long slow-motion shot of an ugly fat dude in his underwear running down the street, hitting people and pushing them down, culminating in him biting the neck of a passerby. A cop shows up and puts a bullet in his head, then smash-cut to two hours earlier where the same guy tells his friend "gently caress YEAH, I'LL DO BATH-SALTS!!!".

Does anyone have quality issues while watching Archer? It seems every 3-4 minutes the dialogue will continue but the video will pause and then the video will catch up. This used to happen before they added season 5 too. It is only happening when I watch Archer and it drives me crazy.

The first trailer for the original Netflix series Daredevil is out. DD is by far my favorite superhero and I still have a lot of first run issues of the comic all the way back to #2! Anyway, I was supremely disappointed by the Ben Affleck movie version and have been hoping for something good to be done with the property. By the looks of this trailer I have high hopes... it looks dark and gritty and the casting is interesting. I'm not too familiar with Charlie Cox but he looks like a good choice for Matt Murdock, and I'm super excited to see Scott Glenn as Stick. I never would have thought of this myself, but Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin looks fantastic. I cannot wait until April 10 to binge the hell out of this.

Counterpoint: The movie is a giant waste of time and has all kinds of insane tone issues and horrendous acting. Looking at the Wikipedia article, it looks like critics either loved it or hated it, so your mileage may vary, I guess. It's definitely...different. But I found it pretty unengaging.

I read the book before I knew there was a movie, so that improved my enjoyment of the film. I recommend the book totally, and the film was passable.

The Seven Percent Solution on HBOGO is such a sad boring movie of whats a decent cast and interesting premise. Sherlock has to be tricked into treatment for cocaine addiction by friends and family. Robert Duvall is Watson Alan Arkin as Freud and jesus its so drat slow. I can't even say any performances stand out ether it has that "tv" feel that so many 70s movies have.

Just watched Parallels because it sounded like Sliders. And it's basically Sliders, except the method of transportation to parallel dimensions is an entire building instead of a handheld device. The acting was okay and there's some interesting culture shock stuff going on, but the movie just kind of ends on a massive cliffhanger. Looking up the movie on IMDB, I found out that it was supposed to be a pilot for a television series, but they released it as a stand-alone movie instead. I'd probably watch it if it ever got picked up, because while the characters were struggling to qualify as likeable, the premise was good enough that the characters could grow into it. Unfortunately there are a ton of unresolved plot points.

I didn't like it at all, but I'm personally not a fan of the "alternate universes" premise, so the characters and such have to be really great in order for me to get into it.

Sigh, Parallels.... I had such high hopes. I love the entire premise of alternate earths, but the poor acting ruined it for me. The character Ronan is just awful... they set him up as some sort of skilled MMA fighter (skilled to at least get beaten up in back alleys and not die) but then every encounter with the Bad Guys ends with him just punching the dude out with one hit. I mean, I don't expect Banshee levels of bad assery, but come on... in one scene a bad guy is just standing there, the heroes roll up on him, Ronan punches the dude in the head once and knocks him out immediately and everyone escapes, end of scene. Just poorly choreographed and terribly shot all around.

Then there's the guy that gets trapped in the building with the others as it jumps to a new earth. Later he builds a device from scratch to hack into the building which seems like it should have been reserved for a much later episode. The way it was done completely nullifies any conflict or drama leading up to what in my mind would be a Pretty Big Deal - (being able to control the building). I get that it was a pilot for a series that wasn't picked up and maybe the cast and crew knew this and just smashed everything they could into the two hours.

The cliffhanger ending was okay I guess but I doubt any network will ever pick this mess up. I'm so disappointed :(
