It's why a lot of small business startups are done by immigrants, because it's often easier for an immigrant to start a business than it is for them to get a job. Yeah, the theory was that Necessity entrepreneurs don't exist if there is a good social security system, which is slightly less absurd. The lecturer conflating less necessity entrepreneurs with less entrepreneurs total was of course his own idiocy.

Graic Gabtar posted:The boats were stopped and then the passengers and crew were sent back. As I had understood it when the government told us they would stop the boats they said they would stop the boats from leaving to come here, not that they would just stop the boats arriving. The difference is subtle but important. Stopping the boats from leaving follows the line of thinking that we need to stop the deaths at sea - the actual reasoning used. Stopping the boats from arriving follows the line that you're racist - the reasoning you've followed for some reason. They have been telling us that by turning back the boats the flood of refugees coming to Australia by boat has stopped, it's disingenuous - and a form of lying, to say that they've stopped coming. They haven't, we simply continue to turn them around.

The difference is subtle but important. I've got my hand poised above the "make forum go full retard" button now BTW. Unless the Australian Navy decide to patrol the Indonesian shoreline (a very bad thing because it's literally piracy apparently) you are always going to get someone put to sea. Human nature. However, the few that do are being intercepted very early and put on a safe ship and safely returned. There are also lot less of those boats trying it based on the number of rescue boats used compared to boat arrivals in recent times. That in itself indicates boats have stopped. Overall, the less time people spend on dangerous craft the better. The more boats that are stopped will continue to discourage others from believing the poo poo peddled by people smugglers and it will be safer again. So they are stopping boats as you understand it. Can you figure out what my issue with each of these bolded sections is? Try to put yourself in a viewpoint outside your own, if you're willing to humor me, otherwise I'll outline each in a later post. Also they've said they "Stopped the boats", that is different to "stopping the boats". When they say they've "Stopped the boats" they're categorically wrong. Hell they could say they've "Reduced deaths at sea", "Reduced attempted boat arrivals" and these things could be true, but that's not what they say, and what they say isn't true. Necessity entrepreneurs exist where there is structural resistance to somebody getting employment. Fortunately for us, we live in a pretty racist business environment, which encourages lots of immigrants into creating businesses, which (eventually) leads to a racially diverse capital class. Now if only we could create structural resistance to employment for other disadvantaged social classes, we'd end up with true diversity in the business arena. ...
