This seems like a ridiculous good price, and I've never seen a ZHP with this low mileage or in this good of condition. Pretty color, too. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/4929099157.html I don't think I could talk my wife into a coupe since we're planning on having a babby soon. Maybe I could talk her into letting me buy it and keep it until that point - I'd really like something for my long highway commute that's more refined than the Saabaru. She has a near violent reaction to discussion of car buying, though, even though we could afford it - she's worried of me becoming our neighbor across the street who has several MR2s, Miatas, and Jeeps in various states of disrepair in his driveway.

Look I get that ZHPs are good cars, but at this point in time you're probably paying at least double what you'd spend on a non-ZHP E46, and not far off what you could pay for an E46 M3 if you are patient. That extra $6-7000 can buy a lot of cooling systems after all.

I don't see the point of ZHPs. The cams are pretty much proven to make no extra power, the ECU software only differs in RPM limit, suspension is going to get changed by anyone looking to keep the car a long time, the 6spd is the same transmission as the normal 6spd 330, etc.

Try this: It was a pretty magical moment, one of those rare times you not only get to laugh at a crackpipe car ad, but you get to watch the guy have a meltdown in real time as all three of the posts he made to sell his car hit over 1,000 replies each in a day. I linked the page on a few local, not retarded car enthusiast pages and a day later the seller was outed as a pedophile, posted pictures of crack rocks to impress us or something, shoved the entire plastic tip of a black and mild down his throat to make it look like he was smoking a blunt, claimed to be friends with Lil B, and admitted to spending almost a thousand dollars on fake instagram followers and talked about how people worship him. I think his uncle even chimed in that he owns a used car lot and wouldn't help him sell it because he had insane expectations. Oh he's also an Arab and said friend of the family about 10 times in the video ad he made for his car. The only word spoken in the entire 5 minute video was friend of the family. So if you've ever wondered who's on the other end of those crackpipe ads, it's probably someone who's actually smoking crack. HEY VAPER fucked around with this message at 19:00 on Mar 15, 2015 |

Not that I'm in any position to take on suicidal car projects; but I am curious how bad an idea that is. Apart from the seats and door panels the interior looks pretty intact. Rust is present but looks like it might not be fatal. I'm guessing the suspension isn't working or won't be reliable if it is. Replacing that with something more mundane would defeat the purpose; but there've got to be options for improving/replacing it with something in the same vein, right? Does anyone actually care what engine it has? If the engine is a basket case, put anything smooth and quiet in it and you'd be good, right?

I don't understand the appeal of either. I don't get honda love, all too cartoon d or They built economy cars except for the NSX and s2000 I don't get any appeal of US 1980s-90s cars, it was just a tiny small step up from the malaise era. While they did do a non honda trick, ie stick a turbo on a plain car, it's still not a great thing. We still aren't talking i6 or v8 supremacy, it's still a buick v6 that every 6cyl commodore 1988-2003 has. Fo3 fucked around with this message at 18:32 on Mar 17, 2015 |

Does anyone actually care what engine it has? If the engine is a basket case, put anything smooth and quiet in it and you'd be good, right? As I've decided to get an SM as soon as my wallet allows, I've studied them a bit. The general gist is, get the best car you can, as everything else will be more expensive in the end. Replacement parts are a problem, as Citroen is horrible with parts for cars even half that age! Citroen's hydropneumatic suspension is actually quite robust and reliable, if properly cared for. Keep in mind, hey went rallying with the SM and won! Furthermore, replacing the suspension would probably be even more daunting than a complete restoration, as the hydraulics power not just the suspension, but steering, brakes, and the swiveling headlamps! The engine of the SM is a Maserati built V6. If properly cared for, it is quite durable, but if not, it is going to break! In particular the timing chains must be cared for or the engine is toast. The main chain and its tensioner must be checked for wear. The secondary chains must be adjusted by hand at certain intervals (every 5000 kms, if memory serves). The valves are another issue. As in old aircraft engines, the valve-stems are hollow and filled with sodium. This will essentially form a heat-pipe (think CPU cooler) as the sodium will melt, once the engine is warm, and transport heat away from the cylinders. This is more of a gimick, but the sodium will corrode the valve-stems and starting/driving an SM with the original valves is very risky! Replacement valves with solid stems are available and work fine. Concerning replacement, you have to keep in mind that the engine was specifically designed to fit into the SM. For that reason its cylinder banks are angeled at 90° like in a V8. The utilities like the hydraulics pump and the AC compressor are driven by the main timing chain and thus sit in front of the engine and at the hight of the cylinder banks! In short, there is probably no engine that will just slot in! Furthermore, both the engine and the hydraulics are part of the SM's character. Replacing them is pretty much sacrilege! As far as I can tell, a properly cared for SM is actually quite reliable, especially if you consider that it was a high-tech grand tourer that could keep up with its contemporaries or even surpass them. This particular SM is probably a parts car at best.
