rear end Creed combat was purely about how gooD the animation and sound effects were, and how effortless and fluid you could get it to look. Unfortunately the game has been pretty downhill in those regards since Assbros.

Black Flag's/Rogue's dual wield stuff looks really good when the system actually has room to play. Which is to say, not on the deck of a boat, which is where around 80% of your melee combat is going to take place.

What's the good Silent Hill on PC after SH2&3? Was it Homecoming or Memories that was the good one? Is the good one even ON pc? Which one was the water one? Should I just tell my friend to play Alan Wake instead? She loved SH2 and really enjoyed SH3 when I let her play those earlier this year.

Because a game built on a modified GameMaker engine has some quirks, and hitboxes can cause you to get hosed sometimes in 2D sprite-based games.

Did the first game have such problems with doors? I don't remember it, but maybe I've just forgotten. It's really annoying in #2, especially if you're playing hard mode where there is very little room for error or glitchy fuckery.

It's by far one of the worst, it's just mechanically awful and the story is dumb as hell. It's on Steam but really, don't get it. Downpour is the water one but isn't on PC. It's not even that watery though. Memories is on Wii, and PS2/PSP I think? It plays pretty differently from all the other games and has mixed opinions but most consider it ok. I think you should just get her to try out Alan Wake really.

Silent Hill 4: The Room is pretty decent, but it's not in any way worth the $50+ it's getting on eBay. Homecoming is the only one of the games on Steam and like HGH says, it's really not good. Most people who loved the second and third games would hate Homecoming. I tried it on the 360 and was bored with it after maybe an hour or two. It's really bad.

That's too bad, but I could really see how easy it would be to gently caress up a game like Silent Hill in order to market it to a larger audience. Not that it's a niche(er) game, but it's certainly more than a FNAF or a Resident Evil/Dead Space experience. How have the gameplay mechanics changed from SH2 to the more current ones? Or is it that the stories are just not as unique and interesting? Also, that's sad to hear about the whole Kojima leaving and the end of Silent Hills. Shattered Memories is flawed but its a really ambitious game and the precursor to the modern style of adventure games focusing more on roleplaying and character interaction.I think its the best post SH3 game in the series and rivals them in some areas. It's definitely worth playing. But yeah, 2 and 3 are the only ones on PC worth getting (They're actually the best versions thanks to fan mods) but you're going to have track down hard copies or because they'll probably never be released digitally. Finished Boot Hill Heroes. Pretty solid Earthbound tribute game, though yeah it is short and ends before the story really starts. The second part was being shown at PAX this year so they didn't abandon it, so that's good. The combat is quite a bit different from Earthbound though, it's very active-time and hectic, swapping between attacking and entering combat stances between up to 4 characters all at once. The most important thing is that it doesn't have an NES sound chip soundtrack. It has an SNES sound chip soundtrack, by the Shovel Knight composer. SH5/Homecoming had a focus on combat "because the protagonist is a soldier". Except the combat sucked. I mean, it's not the most amazing thing in previous SH games, but in Homecoming you had to beat on things forever with melee weapons, not to mention fighting actual humans with guns which was dumb. Also it used the same exact plot twist as a previous game, shoehorned Pyramid Head in, and had some really dumb puzzles and multiple endings. Downpour is totally average I'd say(I don't know the general opinion on it). You pick up melee weapons, they have limited durability. Very rarely you find a regular pistol or shotgun. There are a bunch of sidequests/puzzles all over the city and I think the puzzles are generally better. The enemy variety is a bit nonsensical but serviceable. The plot is ok save for multiple choice past depending on your actions in-game.

Even just in Konami's wording alone, where they keep commenting on it without denying anything, and then make a statement saying that they're looking to hire new leadership for the next metal gear game. On top of stuff like Kojima Productions being renamed/reorganized, it's hard not to jump to conclusions. Of course there isn't going to be any real hard evidence saying that he's leaving because there are NDAs and everyone involved wants MGS5 to sell as much as possible.

Also join the goon guild and there's like 300 gems no one wants in the gstash.

Note that a new 1-month league is starting next Tuesday, most players play the newest league where the economy is fresh and not retarded like in Standard and also for the league-specific mechanics, so I highly recommend starting a character in that league. Cactus outlined how the AI in Hotline Miami 1 worked in a blog post once. Basically, the further away you were from an enemy when they spotted you, the faster a turn rate they were granted. This was to make it possible - even encouraged - to bumrush gun-wielding enemies from short distances and corners, and to make it impossible to exploit their aim to snake down long corridors. One of HM2's biggest problems is that they wanted to make all the levels bigger, but they didn't change this behavior at all. So what winds up happening is that a dude sees you from a distance bigger than any level in HM1 ever was, and is granted a Godlike turn rate that causes him to 180 noscope you before you could even see him with zoom look. It was really rare that you could get killed by an enemy that you couldn't even see by zooming in HM1 - it was possible, but rare. In HM2, it happened to me at least once a level, I think. When I knew HM2 was going to be a series of interconnected short stories that intertwine, like Pulp Fiction, I thought "loving awesome, but I hope they don't go with the worst case scenario, which would be explaining away all the mystery and surrealness that made the first game fun." Unfortunately, that's exactly what they did, and at the cost of implementing some seriously stupid retcons along the way. If Jacket is supposedly a trained killer that was part of an elite squad of soldiers that took huge objectives despite their small size, why does he take a moment to vomit on the ground after being forced to kill a homeless aggressor at the end of the first level of HM1? Why was Richter "threatened" into joining 50 Blessings when at the end of the first game, the Janitors emphasized that they didn't coerce anyone to do it in the phone calls - they just did it on their own? It feels like HM2 is more concerned with canon and lore than a general tone, when I really admired the first game for doing the exact opposite. With all the backstory that HM2 adds to explain just about everything, now HM1 just feels like an incomplete story. Wanna know what the hell is going on? HM1's ending seemed to say "you won't ever get answers and you have to deal with it," but now that HM2 exists, it's more "Buy the sequel if you wanna know what any of this means!" Also Hotline Miami was way better when Jacket was a weird brutal psychopath and not some kind of action hero like all of HM2's protagonists are/they pretend Jacket was in the first game.
