My favourite flaw in this legislation is that by refusing to store destination hostnames, there's a very real chance that people are going to be falsely accused of being involved in terrorist/child porn websites based on their access of shared hosts.

Laserface posted:Android is hilariously insecure by comparison. This just in: neither mobile OS is very secure, but the majority of this is because of the user ignoring security notices. In terms of security, they are approximately equal(ly bad). Android's nicer though, because at least there's the option to disable a lot of the security for when you need to do weird poo poo for research. There's a reason there's not a lot of research done on iOS.

katlington posted:Apples proprietary platform, iOS, will keep my privacy safe from the government! It's much easier to get remote access tools onto an android phone because Google don't check the software that gets put on their store. At all. They've only just started in the last few months. Malicious software on the play store is well documented. IOS isn't immune but the fact that the NSA is targeting iOS developer tools rather than the store itself should be evidence enough that Apple actually do review the apps people try to list in their store and tell people peddling shitware to gently caress off often enough that the degree of difficulty is enough to persuade anyone with the resources to approach it from another angle. I said any smartphone though. It's the price you pay for choosing to have one. That said, android lol quote:A particularly devious new Android malware can make calls or take photos even if you shut the device down, according to security research firm AVG. Pretty much every dumbphone has all those things, except GPS which, as mentioned, isn't needed to pinpoint your exact location to within 3 metres. It's the apps that'll get ya.

Yeah, if you honestly think that your iPhone is secure (or even more secure than android), you're the kind of person these malware authors are targeting. E; also, as ragingsheep said, there are no local official Chinese appstores except for the manufacturer ones, and they're not affiliated with Google

This seems like an argument you should be having in YOSPOS, Smeg. I hear there's plenty of OS-warriors there e; also pretty high tolerance for both unlabelled graphs, and arguments that "numbers of malwares" is somehow an indicator of how secure a platform is

Your government can spy on you regardless of which mobile operating system you can use because most of the methods they're using to spy on you are at carrier-level, not device-level

I edited the post to add the rest because it was a comment I missed and I didn't want to double post to respond to it. I'm not perfectly balanced and I don't pretend to be - as I said, I mostly use android for research because I can at least disable the security for when we want to use smartphones for research purposes, which is why we don't use a lot of iPhones. However, both platforms have a pretty even share of security flaws and both are vulnerable to the topic at hand, which was metadata retention. I know you love jumping down my throat constantly, but can you at least do it in pm so it doesn't poo poo up an already lovely thread? Your friend and lover, .:Murodese:.
