This is provably partly because the Metroid games aren't very popular in Japan and Japanese companies tend to prefer to pander to their domestic bases than their international ones. In fact, Other M was made as an attempt to create a Metroid game that would appeal to Japanese players.

It sold like poo poo there too.
Hold on a tic, would that explain why Other M was passed on to Team Ninja? Are the DOA games and spinoffs more popular in Japan then here as well? Either way, a Team Ninja developed Metroid was the first drat sign that this was going to be a bad game.

Oh hey, I'm curious about armor now. Was I right about my previous assumption how it's meant to be bulky as hell or are there any real-world applications to form-fitting armor? Independent to the Zero Suit of course.

*I didn’t think it was a bad game. But it definitely gave Samus a way different image than any of the others. Until now she always came across as a silent, cool-headed, lone soldier, like Master Chief. But in Other M it feels like she’s portrayed as “regular woman Samus”.

*I sensed something FF13 about it

*Why won’t they ever make a NORMAL 2D Metroid?

*To borrow a recent phrase from Nintendo, it was a bunch of unrelatable monologue. It comes out of nowhere, never ends, and the monologue itself doesn’t really have much to do with the player’s experience, which makes it feel like, “Well, that’s not MY problem.” As a result, it all just feels like more of a chore than anything.

A lot of it depends on the material, but completely form-fitting armor seems like a really bad idea from a physics perspective (if its too close to your skin, the force of an impact can do a good amount of harm even if the projectile doesn't break through.) Tight-fitting armor is also actually going to be very difficult to move in if it provides any decent protection.

Bulky armor has its own caveats of course, like mobility. If you're armoured up like a walking tank you're going to move like one. The most used armors are stuff like kevlar vests since they're a middle ground between the extremes, offering decent protection while allowing a good range of movement.

Aside from what's already been said, they've been going against speedrunners using glitches, TAS runners, basically anyone playing their games in a manner they don't approve of. They've been taking down videos on Nico like crazy, and been trying to leverage more power to take stuff down.

I'd like to say that the amount that armor people actually use/used in real life affects mobility is very, very exaggerated by films and video games, but I'm mostly familiar with antique stuff like plate armor(you can look up youtube videos of people running at a full sprint, doing somersaults etc. in plate) which I don't think is what you're talking about. Regardless if armor is made to be worn by human beings, generally speaking it is not going to make them unable to move quickly because that would be stupid and probably get them killed.

It's worth saying that in any sort of bulky metal armor, there is a lot of room(often largely filled by padding, like a gambeson). The idea of needing to wear tight clothes under armor doesn't really gel at all with how armor, as a thing, works

IIRC Medieval full plate weighed less than a modern soldier's standard kit, at least somewhat because modern soldiers carry a ton of supplies and ammunition (and anybody rich enough to wear full plate had servants for that).

A typical complete suit of steel plate armor made for combat would weigh roughly 40-60 pounds(jousting armor, especially later on, was highly specialized and way heavier which is part of where the myth of super heavy armor comes from). So yeah, quite a bit lighter than what soldiers nowadays are often expected to carry.
Plate armor definitely wasn't something that rich people only could afford after a while, though, it got less and less expensive over time. Although many armies moved to half-plate for economic reasons later anyhow.

I wouldn't say having sexy characters is a bad thing, technically, but rating a character's quality based on fan art and porn of said character is misrepresentation at its worst.

Deviant Art has literally made everything in the world sexist then. All you can do is judge the author's work, from your perspective, not how others reacted to it. Outside of Other M, this series had been completely free of that bullshit and it's far from a highly thought of or influencal game.

Not really. In ZM this is the very first thing you see after being stripped of your armor for no reason before the worst section of the game in which you move down a linear path and cannot kill enemies:

I also would call the 8-bit bikini more unintentionally goofy than an intentional joke.

They're basically an extreme version of full-body hockey goalie pads.

Though, looking at the newer models of bear suit, they don't seem that awkward anymore:

(Hell, I could see a fairly realistic Samus "zero suit" design taking cues from that.)

EDIT: I can see SOME justification for Samus having some sort of extra protection layer under her bigger (more combersome) power armor in case the latter fails but the zero suit is just silly fanservice especially with those dumb heels they added to it in Smash Brothers.

But that's still heavy armor-and if you're talking about a 'Zero Suit' which is heavy armor, why even have one? Why not just have samus in her powersuit all the time? Works fine for most of her games.

The reason I jump to plate armor is mostly because of how the large protruding angular bit on the varia suit's chest reminds me of the convex ridge running down the middle of plate breastplates, to redirect blows away from vital organs. But it's probably just like that to look imposing.

I'm not seeing what you trying to show here. She's drawn to be "attractive" or whatever, but her tits aren't flopping about or isn't wearing something ridiculous. There is a semi detailed portrayal of her rear end, which isn't even really in frame. This isn't loving Neuptuina or objectionable unless you are looking back on this from the mindframe of Other M, which might have killed the franchise.

There's no reason for her to be wearing a skintight suit which shows off her rear end in the first place. If they really wanted to go for a "you lose the powersuit" segment, which I maintain was unfun and a bad idea, there's no need to have it be some skimpy blue latex thing.

Other M added heels n the zero suit. and the one in smash had rocket boosters, the other M heels are jut there for show so it a tiny bit better.

so yes even bad designs in other games with samus can be rooted back to other M. gently caress that game.

The Zero Suit is basically Zero Body Paint and she's got the sexy hiptilt pose thing going on. This does not communicate "strong" or "just been through some poo poo," it communicates, "look how sexy my rear end is." I don't even know what the hell you mean by her rear end not being in frame; it's laid out to be one of the focal points of the image according to rule of thirds. Hell, the whole composition of the art is basically guiding the eye straight to the butt.
