I think I would say to my daughters if they were to ask me this question... A shitpost is the greatest gift that you can give someone, the ultimate gift of giving and don't give it to someone lightly, that's what I would say.

Okay, so what's a decent battlecruiser setup, keeping in mind that I've only previously played to about level 20 and had to think a moment before I got some of those acronyms? I'm enjoying the story (believe it or not) and I just want to continue enjoying the story. It'd be the Negh--

120,000 refined dilithium for even a Tier 4 ship? It would literally take me less time to reroll my character and level back up to getting a free one than do that! That's a minimum of fifteen real days! What the hell?

If you haven't already, have a look at the Mirror Vo'quv. You can launch birds of prey as hanger pets and the Lt Commander science seat lets you use Gravity Well, the best power in the game.

Also, never buy ships available for dilithium from the ship vendor. They're all horribly outdated newbie traps for the unwary and you can get equivalent mirror ships or other cheap variants.

Also note that the KDF mirror ships are straight upgrades over their regular equivalents so there is literally no reason to blow that much dil on extra ships. Federation and Romulan mirror ships are sidegrades.

FredMSloniker posted:

Hm. Would a raptor serve me better? I just don't want the whole 'wallow like a pig and broadside like it's the age of sail' thing that Federation ships bigger than escorts have.

If you prefer the fast moving run and gun playstyle, stick with Raptors, Birds of Prey and escorts. Normally we say "don't mix weapon types" when it comes to beams and cannons but with a Raptor or BoP you can afford to stick a dual beam bank up front for some buff up, decloak, beam overload, watch enemy explode shenanigans. Stick a quantum torpedo or that op reputation torpedo up front with a torpedo high yield mixed in, time it to fire after thier shields are down from the beam overload and you can really one shot people. End game ships have ridiculous hp, torpedoes to deal with that poo poo is perfectly viable now.

If you were turned off of cruisers because of the Federation cruisers being poo poo, rejoice, KDF cruisers have a good turn rate and can run rings around Federation cruisers. They are not nearly as nimble as escorts however and you're still better off using beam broadsides generally. There's a couple of niche builds for some end game KDF cruisers that involve single cannons and turrets or dual beam banks and 360 beams but those require some serious grind and spacewealth.

Basically enjoy those free ships you got, play around with them and some different loadouts to see what you prefer, and then pour your resources into getting the best ship and gear for your preferred playstyle, because alts in this game are dead.

I'm a bit biased since I think battlecruisers are loving amazing in general, and there's a drat good reason why almost all the cruisers released lately have been battlecruiser variants. All the durability of a cruiser, but with (usually) decent mobility and speed and a cloak if you're klankside. Most are nimble enough and have a tac-heavy boff seating that you can get away with dual cannons in PVE too, though it usually requires a careful selection of skills and doffs. Really good all around ships with no real weaknesses.

Mysteena also believed we were somehow controlling his ERP buddy and decided to ERP with other players, send me the logs, then tell me to let his friend go if I "liked what I saw" and wanted more. The logs themselves are hilariously bad, and when posted in local chat, he would spend the next 30 minutes vigorously denying they ever existed.

It's still one of the better carriers. Recluse is on top and will probably be so until mesh weavers are nerfed somehow, and the Narcine is probably better if you don't have access to the JHAS pets, but it's still pretty decent if you have one.

Haha, they throttled the server capacity to make it look busy. Probably a brief test before implementing it permanently, a la Archeage.

Honestly, its not artificial. Without the queue you just get random disconnects constantly. It was ubiquitous during January and February until a random patch seemed (at the time) to fix it. Clearly enough people just quit that it resolved itself and this Delta Recruit event has brought some back and their hardware is crumbling again.

I'm guessing they scaled back the hardware after the DR flop and are just pretending its business as usual, but who knows?

Nah, clearly it's because Delta Rising was such a popular expansion - the best ever, really - that they're just flooded with players all the time now.

The folks at IQ fleet have datamined yet more content from Season 10. The BOFF power revamp looks to finally be about to pay off in the form of NEW POWERS!

IQ posted:

Engineering: Structural Integrity Collapse

Tactical: Kemocite Weaponary

Science: Subspace Vortex

If that Engineering one is a good direct damage one it might make me feel better about losing access to Grav Well in the Presidio.

Also, they've found a silhouette of the rare and powerful Malon Dil'do Cruiser.

Picked up the T6 Negh'Tev fleet variant today, stuffed if I know what to do with it. It has an odd BOFF setup, Engineer/Command slots and a 4/4 seapkn placement where I expected a 5/3.
Any build suggestions?
I do intend to go with probably a Fleet core, Nukura/Rom/Nukura setup down the track and Borg assimilated module etc..

So now that upgrading consoles is a thing, is it smarter to buy the mark 10 stuff and upgrade it from there rather than buying the mark 12s? It saves a shitload of fleet credits and a pittance of dilithium, though the dilithium savings will be quickly countered by the upgrade costs. Mostly it's to save on fleet credits. My delta guy only has a little over 100k, which would be depleted with two consoles if I bought the 12s.

Yeah it's generally the better idea. It costs a little more dilithium once you add in the upgrade costs, but not drastically more and it saves an absolute shitload of fleet credits while giving you two extra (if small) chances at a free quality upgrade.

Only downside is the spire tactical consoles only come on MkXII form so you're paying 50k fleet credit a pop regardless.

For some reason killing the queues, adding huge dilithium sinks, raising the price of everything, and adding tedious grinds killed the game. It's something the developers could never have predicted.

I've been watching star trek box sets the last few weeks so I updated STO and looked back in. How can they possibly still be so dumb as to be buying keys and opening boxes.

I forget the exact wording, but it's pretty specific about them winning the ship, and it only happens when a box is opened.

Which is quite intentional. It's the same reason slot machines ring and flash when someone wins, it obfuscates the actual lovely chances by making it seem really common by only showing the wins and not the hundreds of losses per win.

I was never a huge chatter but I also haven't played in about a month, getting 75% through upgrades and going broke kinda killed it for me, I don't have the drive to farm enough contra to get back to upgrading and nothing they're doing with the game makes me want to come back. I was never space rich but I was well off and realizing how deep the upgrade hole really is just killed it for me.
