I finally started playing through Xenoblade on the Wii because it seemed like the thing to do with everyone doing it on the 3ds. It's just been sitting around in a box for 5 years. I was a little trepidatious about getting into a 100 hour RPG at this point, but that sequel looks too drat good that I couldn't help it. I'm just now leaving the first Colony, some four hours in. I mostly like the way it plays. Does the writing get any better?

Yes in that it picks up, things start happening, goals for characters to pursue pop up and foreshadowing occurs. No in that it never stops being very Japanese, which means being very trope heavy. It's less Japanese than a few other JRPG's I could name, like it's worlds better than anything FFXIII did, but it's still a JRPG.

It should be a character that can represent the whole series, like one of the recurring creatures or job classes. I think the best candidates are Black Mage, and Moogle. Regardless, FF is an iconic long-running franchise that shares a history with Nintendo and would be fitting for SSB, and also so is Castlevania. That's my opinion.

If you wanna get specific about console releases, then you have to look back a few years to WiiWare-- but exactly the same thing is true of Mega Man.
