Sure, there's the Duels of the Planeswalkers games, but 2015 was railroady and awful, and MtG Online costs (a lot of) real money and is probably awful for players who are new to the game. It is impossible to build a good warrior deck in Hearthstone. gently caress i'm getting my rear end handed to me in every single bout. I can literally predict what cards my opponent will have and there's not a god drat thing i can do to stop their onslaught.

I highly recommend dropping into the Hearthstone GDT thread in the Blizzard Subforum to get good info on decks and strategy. Spreading out posts over the iOS and Android thread is going to be less efficient then just checking that thread's OP and then hopping in to the discussion with any questions you have, there are plenty of new players in that thread so it isn't an old boys club by any means.

Wizards did announce magic duels: origins recently. It comes put on July and replaces duels of the planeswalkers. Instead of new versions very year, it just updates when a new set comes out. There's single player and in game currency to buy cards with, and i think you can pay real money too. It's pretty much the best mtg game.

If you're on the PC and jonesing that badly, seriously give Hex a shot. It does enough differently from MTG to be interesting but is so close to it mechanically that a MTG player can learn it almost immediately. I mean "hit with an infringement lawsuit" close.

Summoners War is a great Pokemon/team battle clone. It gets grindy if you want to excel, but the production values are great for a mobile game and it's very generous about earning free premium currency. Definitely not pay to win. You can drop $100 on summons and still get hosed by the RNG.

FredMSloniker posted:Regarding the lack of Civ games on Android: is it worth mentioning Freeciv? Unless you're really familiar with Civ 2, it's got quite a learning curve and little to no tutorial to speak of. And considering that game is almost 20 years old at this point, it's entirely possible that a lot of people won't have any clue how to play. Plus general UI clunkiness and, let's be honest, graphics so old school that they impact playability, especially on a smaller screen. Not a lot of points in its favor. That said, if you are already familiar with it, it's certainly playable. Just... not great.

FredMSloniker posted:Regarding the lack of Civ games on Android: is it worth mentioning Freeciv? The game itself is fine, but the UI is atrocious on a tablet and there's no explanation for what buttons do what in the game. If you're already pretty familiar with playing Freeciv in a browser it's probably okay, but not really ideal. I'd play the crap out of it if they just made it more tablet-friendly though.

FYI, the two tales of Illyria games (fallen knight, beyond the iron wall) are on sale currently. They're like a cross between an early final fantasy battle system and an Oregon trail resource management system, but with a campaign and a ton of random events. I really like them. Also, they are one of the few good RPGs I've played that are android exclusive, if that matters to people.

Is anyone playing 'Prison Life RPG'? You select one of many different prisoners and have to survive your sentence before getting released. You can join gangs, extort people, shank people, craft drugs, take part in boxing matches and drop the soap in the shower amongst other things. You start with the choice of about 10 characters and as you 'complete' the game with them you have access to more with longer prison sentences. In longer sentences you can work towards making an escape plan. It seems pretty deep for a mobile game and lighthearted considering the subject matter. My latest character is trying to kill as many people as I can. I'm already on death row and good friends with the guard running solitary confinement. I've only got a few days before I get executed and I'm using it saving money to get my lawyer to rescue me with a helicopter. Anyway it's £2.99/$3.99 with no IAP, seems to have a decent level of replayability.

I recently picked up a Galaxy S6 after my last Nexus 4 came down with a serious case of gravity, so pretty much everything runs silky smooth (Hearthstone included) and makes me a terrible source of information on how well things run. Since I was stuck with my old Nexus S until the S6 came out for about a month, it means I'm catching up with a few titles that I may have missed lately.
