It's kind of funny that in the absence of Sharpshooters the current best strategy for handling Scrakes and Fleshpounds is to get an idiot with a hammer to run up to them and parry.

I'm not really seeing any huge issues here, so feel free to point out the specifics that you think I'm missing. As the page points out, Commando benefits from large magazines and a fast reload, so those seem like the obvious and no-brainer perk choices. Nor does it answer the question of why Commando gets health buffs that, as far as I'm concerned, constitute a durability buff.

You seemed to be describing the Sharpshooter from KF 1 is all. A lot of KF vets will tell you that the Commando has no place in "high level" play because it was pretty much useless compared to anything else you could take into Suicidal or Hell on Earth. They were also quite squishy as a result of not being able to take anything higher than a Husk solo on anything over Hard. That should explain their buffed health and damage bonuses because it looks like TWI is trying to make them a viable "end game" class.

Unfortunately though one thing that really made the Commando great was lowered recoil as you leveled and that seems to have been removed. A lot of the Commando perk combinations don't seem to make sense with what they're paired with for you to pick from and the Nightvision that Beserker and Commando have access to is pretty much useless. If they're going to do extremely dark maps like they used to, something like Nightvision should be an all inclusive thing instead of just limited to two classes that have no real use for them.

Okay, this makes sense, so thanks for elaborating. I guess Commando is then intended to be able to shift between constantly being on the front lines and sniping from a distance, without dominating either role as well as another perk could? And that perhaps the perks could use some adjusting?

Commando ( and Firebug ) is the Trash Clearer in Chief. Commando keeps everyone else clear so they can deal with Scrakes and Fleshpounds.

I want to like Berserker more than I actually do. In theory I'm all about running around and parrying and chopping down enemies in melee, but I haven't been able to find the right groove for it. I'm not as good at swinging for the head as I'd like to be and I haven't totally wrapped my mind around the parry/block mechanic yet. I probably just have to play with it some more until I get a hang of the playstyle, or maybe the other melee perk will end up being more my speed.

The weird thing about Commando night vision is that the SCAR has a flashlight so it needs NVGs a lot less than other classes. At least once they fix the SCAR's flashlight which I'm assuming they will given that it's modelled onto the gun.

Heh, I'm going through the same thing at the moment. The Zerk's new weapons scream "pure offense" to me, which makes it hard for me to mentally get used to blocking instead of just wailing on everything with the shovel or Pulverizer until they all die.

Calling this Early Access is almost a disservice to Tripwire, considering how most EA stuff ends up being barely-functional tech demos. The only thing this lacks is content-completeness, and unlike other EA stuff, there's really no reason to believe Tripwire will screw up on delivering the content. Everything else seems pretty sound.

The flamethrower is really cool and eventually there will be other-flame based weapons and a perk (class) that excels in using them.

The list price is steep for what's actually in the game right now in terms of raw content, but what's in there is very playable, polished and complete. The Steam page is pretty upfront about Tripwire's approach to Early Access and it seems like the limited selection of content is a "we want to polish, playtest, and balance a couple of things at a time" decision rather than a "this is the only stuff we've built and we're just throwing it out because we want to have something up" one.

If anyone's curious: previously it was mentioned that the Nailgun counts towards shotgun damage for Support XP for some reason. I just tested it and it totally doesn't. Having some cross-perk weapons would be really nice, though, because out of the four perks I currently only have points in Support and Field Medic.

Yeah, the flamethrower owns bones but there's pretty much zero reason to use it right now because you don't get any xp. I feel like for the sake of EA it should reward XP to whatever perk you're using.

Also, it has innate penetration. I haven't seen any sign of support increasing that. It is a good weapon and all, but I don't think it gains any benefit from support passives. No clue if medic shotgun does either, though that would of course be easier to test.
