Is Terrible Garage Stuff okay? I changed the oil in my car, backed it out of the garage, pulled the door down and SPROINGGGGG, one of the tension cables somehow unwound itself from the cable reel and the door jammed since it was only suspended from one side. It was such a nice day up to that point.

Extra posted:The catalytic converter did not seem to want to shift downward after removing the 3 nuts attaching the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter. The process of moving the catalytic converter seems to require the removal of 2 nuts to remove a bracket attaching the catalytic converter to the engine block, and the removal of 2 nuts and 2 bolts attaching the catalytic converter to the rest of the exhaust system. Attempting to remove the cat -> engine bracket nuts and the cat -> exhaust pipe nuts with a large breaker bar was unsuccessful most likely due to the high amount of rust present and a lack of strength. You can trash that bracket, I pulled mine off when the car was three years old and never looked back. You probably don't even have to disconnect the cat from the flex pipe either...you just need enough of a gap to slip a socket between the two parts.

So aside from the fact he put 19's on a lancer .... I'm assuming with AWD you can't stagger the tires, like this fellow did. The AWD portion probably started pulling itself apart
|
# ? May 3, 2015 23:08 |

It's not that you can't stagger necessarily but the circumference is totally different - there's like a full inch of difference in the diameter. The error with the cranked steering is the S-AWC system on the Lancer freaking out. It's not just the AWD system but all the electronics that come along with it including the torque vectoring and other stuff. Since it primarily works off of wheel speed sensors, it'd be hard to compensate for the situation. The same thing on a Subaru would eat the centre diff. Dunno about the DCCD cars, maybe it throws an error and then tries to put it into a safe mode that will eventually eat the centre diff anyway. His rears would be 83.9" circumference, his fronts 80". at 60 mph his front axles would be turning 792 RPM, his rears 755 RPM. at 3.944 final drive, that's 3123 RPM on the front, 2978rpm on the rear. nearly 150 RPM difference on a clutch style AWD system. AWD lancers have a 4x4 style selector switch, where you can turn it to 2wd to safe fuel/wear. Of course no AWD lancer has ever been turned to that 2wd setting because rallycar.

He's travelling at 100km/h while taking a photograph in a car which is doing his best to tell him to stop now, if not sooner. Write back to him and tell him the oxygen sensor has gone bad, but he can recalibrate it by running the car in a closed garage until it stalls.

First gen Probes, IIRC, offered a 4 cyl turbo. I remember being pissed off at my dad for passing on the turbo because he wanted a V6 so much more, despite having less power and only coming with an automatic.

Looks like the only car sold in the US that got the 1.8L version was the Mazda 323, which was the same as in the Probe just with less displacement. His was a Vulcan. Surprisingly, the Vulcan can go over 60k without an oil change - he just added oil when the "low oil light" came on (hint: it's not a low oil light). He'd toss in 1-2 quarts and keep driving until the light came on again. It smoked like a motherfucker when he traded it in, and wondered why he only got $1k for a car he'd paid over $10k for 3 years prior (he got it with something like 3k miles). It'd seen one oil change the entire time he had it, and one car wash, and the interior was packed with empty beer cans and empty packs of cigarettes when he got rid of it, with one window propped up by a piece of wood in the door. He really doesn't treat his current cars any better (aside from not drinking at all, and not smoking inside them), even though he now buys brand new and always gets ~3 years of free maintenance included. And still doesn't get why he doesn't get jack poo poo when he trades them in and why they tell him his warranty isn't valid when they break down. He's currently driving an 04 Acura RL that's never had an oil change, it's also learned quite a few knock knock jokes and blows a bit of smoke at startup (oil light also stays on a good 20-30 seconds on a cold start). Every time I visit, he wonders why I insist on either renting a car or driving my own car down. It's because I maintain my cars, I don't want to get stuck on the side of the road, especially with how hilly my hometown is. My stepmom's Lexus hybrid is in even worse shape. I have no idea how you can trash the interior of a luxury SUV that badly in 4 years, and almost every warning light was lit up on it when I moved it out of the garage to fix their garage door opener (which was literally attached by 1 bolt and trying to torque itself off the mounts every time they opened/closed it). Flashing CEL, some light related to the hybrid system, ABS, brake, TPMS.. I think the only light not lit up was the alternator light. (door opener had sheared 3 of 4 bolts and had cracked the remaining mounting hole, stepmom didn't see any problem with it.. her father lives down the street and walked in while I was fixing it, I showed him pictures of how it looked before I started fixing it... holy poo poo, never get in the way of a retired Army man when he's ripping his daughter a new rear end in a top hat for being stupid . it also had a broken spring on the door, he immediately called a repair company and wrote them a check, and told me his daughter or my dad would be paying for it.. good for him) Probably getting a bit rant on this part, but when my mom was married to my dad, he would never fix anything around the house until it was completely non-operational, then find the cheapest way to nurse it along until it became $$$$, then find some family member willing to fix it for cheap. He never believed in preventive maintenance - and he was in the military. I still hold some grudges against him for that, and also against him because I always wind up with a 50+ item "honey do" list every time I visit. Ranging from as simple as "we can't figure out how to turn off the attic light" (... get a ladder, go up there, pull the chain) to "this faucet has been dripping nonstop for years", the best one was "our pool recirculation pump died 7 years ago, can you fix it?". I took one look at the water in the pool and said "I can, but we're looking at 4-5 figures for me to even touch it, I want absolutely nothing to do with this poo poo, you're better off calling a real pool company" (it's still not fixed, 5 years later, and they have a decent mosquito breeding pool). Phew. E/N moment took over for a moment there. Sorry about that. IOwnCalculus posted:Well, and possibly a new transfer case / tranny / however ChryslerOfJapan handles that sort of thing.
