someone that understands this stuff better than me should write a basic explanation of voting in the primaries and how that's the most important thing for his campaign. i believe in texas independents can vote in the democratic primaries but many states have closed ones that might require people to declare/change their party.

florida is a closed primary state, which means you must be a member of that party to vote in the primary. typically you have to be registered for a party for a set amount of time (typically a year) to vote in the primary. so if you want to vote for sanders in the primary you should register as a dem here are all states and their primary types: http://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/primary-types.aspx if you are unsure you should register dem asap because some states have time requirements.

In Florida you only to be registered one month before the election to vote, even for party primaries. Usually by the time we get to vote in the Democratic primary the race is pretty much decided though. Vote whoever you want in the primary, but be sure to vote for Jill Stein in the general. Unless Bernie beats Hillary (that will not be allowed to happen).

A large percentage of the delegate votes (like 1/4 iirc) are just straight-up given to elected office holders and party officials. So right off the bat the establishment gets a big head start. basically it's insanely retarded but also ingeniously set up to provide an emergency plan in case a real non-establishment person wins the nomination. the delegates could ultimately vote however they want and the superdelegates themselves hold tremendous influence over who is the candidate. They can force a candidate that isn't even close to winning the most votes, which is exactly what would happen if Bernie got the most votes in the primary. Jill Stein 2016
