Did they do that again? Because they did it right before the Revan expansion dropped. Is it a permanent thing now?

So I loaded up STO for 4 hours to install an update. Then didn't play. The download was pretty fun and then I remembered what gameplay was like. How'd the delta recruit thing go? I only made it to level 6 before getting horribly angry. Also lol thread title.

Delta Recruit is surprisingly fun. At least it makes things a little different in the early maps as you are on the look out for Iconian Tech (and I was always afraid I would miss it but never did as they put them in obvious places). Also gave me a good excuse to try crafting more as I was making new sets every 10 levels. Of course, now that my DR is over 50 and I've nearly gone bankrupt from make two sets it's getting a lot less fun. But the rewards you get not just for your DR but all your Alts are worth if just for the R&D goods and Marks alone. Burning_Monk fucked around with this message at 17:55 on May 8, 2015 |

I have like 10 characters all up, most of which are doff mules, and once I'd accumulated all the R&D rewards they all got from getting a single delta recruit to R&D level 5 in one school it was like 50 million EC worth of stuff, if not more. Even if you're not gonna do DR fully, it's worth running one enough to get that R&D poo poo.

So from my lifetime sub I apparently currently have 6066 C Store Zen Super Funbuck points. Has anyone tried those pilot ships? Would they be worth it at all?

AfroSquirrel posted:So does this mean I can sub for a month or so and pretend I'm playing KotOR 3 instead of an MMO? Nope, that game has an unfortunate prevalence of bear rear end collecting. I was a huge fan of the Kotors, but SWTOR is nothing like that. The story interludes (for Sith at least) were hilarious and entertaining, but no game has made me feel as impotent as swtor did.. Sure, you fling around more lightning than the emperor, but the amount of electricity you need to pump into even the lowest level trash mob is enough to power a loving Flux Capacitor.

You could try reading what you're replying to. 12x exp means you do only the story quests which are mostly boss fights, mini-dungeons and conversations with no robot rear end collecting to be seen. You can complete a classes story in about the same amount of time as a normal Bioware RPG(50-80 hours).

Truthfully, I just expect this game to end at some point like how St. Elsewhere did, only with a Q and the galaxy in the snowglobe.

I played SWTOR during the last 12x and had a good time. You really can skip all of the crap missions and just do the better ones to level, the only downside is that staying equipped is basically impossible. There were a couple of spots where I wound up unable to handle a fight because I was in crap gear.

Oh, and just to add, Geko's justification for nerfing 12 hours was "What about people unsatisfied with 13 hour projects?" Because clearly the problem is on a relative, non-absolute scale.

Just by way of comparison, there is way more activity in the MWO thread. In case you were unclear about STO being functionally dead.

In fairness this was never exactly the busiest game or thread. Still pretty dead now, though. Just glancing at the user list for the thenextgooneration in XMPP shows like a third as many people on compared to the pre-DR patches. Good work, Cryptic.

So why does the Klingon pilot ship only get a regular cloak but rommies get a battle cloak?
|
# ? May 9, 2015 20:21 |
|
Klanks only get battle cloak on Birds of Prey. It's been this way for all of the 9-packs. They "balance" it out by giving feds more hull than klanks who have more hull than roms.
|
# ? May 9, 2015 21:19 |
|
Or to be more honest: the fed versions are usually the shittest, and the romulan versions the best, outside of cases like cruiser style ships where a warbird misses out on some innate ship ability. Especially since the klank versions often wind up having more hull and trivially less shields than the fed versions.

The klank is better, because it at least has a cloak. And then you have the rom that just blows both out of the water because it has a battle cloak.

The Klingon veteran ship actually does have a battle cloak, for some reason. Still not as good as a Romulan cloak.

FuturePastNow posted:The Klingon veteran ship actually does have a battle cloak, for some reason. Still not as good as a Romulan cloak. And yeah, romulan cloaks get a bonus to flight speed and turn speed and few other small things that klank/fed cloaks don't. It actually varies a bit from ship to ship, the cloaks on the D'deridex variants, the Ha'apax, and the Scimitar get pretty big turn rate bonuses to help compensate for being giant whales.

Asimo posted:Which makes the Chimera even more hilariously pathetic in comparison. I know Cryptic can't toss cloaks onto Fed boats that easily due to license issues and all, but you'd think they'd have something to compensate. Like being better in hull and shields. But nope! The good news is that the chimera also looks the worst of the bunch. It really looks like it could play as some excelsior skin instead of some kind of escort ship.
