Hail and well met travelers. Me and the YOSPOS boys have been having a long argument, spanning many generations of our chat thread. Anyways, the question is the topic of the OP. Personally, I think it's: 1) Mustard (spicy) 2) Horseradish 3) Not sure about this slot, or the following 100 103) Epic Fail Ketchup (For Children.) Anyways, I guess to really get to the meat (heh) of this discussion, we need to define a condiment. I didn't go to culinary school, but I did go to Cunnilungus school, AHHA. Nah, but I did go to CUCKinary school. I kid, I didn't do that either, I just like the jokes about that I read in GBS. Anyways, I thought I'd defer to the experts. Thoughts? Best condiment?

lately I've been on a salsa verde kick, probably because tomatillos have been like 70c/lb. A good soy sauce is amazing, tastes nothing like the colored salty water you get in the little red-top bottle.

The gently caress people, the only answers are: Sriracha, Sambal Oelek, and Garlic Chili Paste. Possibly Dijon.

Salt isn't a condiment, it's a requirement. Yellow mustard (of the popular cheap regular kind) is crap. I honestly can't decide between Dijon mustard, soy sauces of varying types, vinegars of various types, and chilli/garlic sauces. I could live without most condiments, like ketchup, mayo, horseradish/fake wasabi, and BBQ sauces; but not without dijon, vinegar, soy or chilli sauces. Dijon mustard or maybe some kind of chili adobo. Hoisin gets a special shoutout as an ingredient more than a condiment because it smells like asian bbq sauce.

Little strange to most people I know...but I absolutely LOVE tamarind sauce. I use it on a ton of things and its just amazing tastewise. I use it on my burgers, and dip fries in it, and generally anywhere I would use ketchup etc I use the tamarind. I add some to my BBQ sauce and people go nuts over it...they can never figure out what it is So so so good.

Do you buy it or make it? I've only got tamarind concentrate to use for cooking, if you make it I'd try to make a usable sauce from my concentrate. I love the sambals that have tamarind in them.

Fo3 posted:Do you buy it or make it? I buy it from the local Indian store. They make it fresh on site, so I go about once a week or so to get my fix. It's almost a chutney but not as chunky...it only has a few chunky bits in it. I've tried making it myself with the concentrate but its not quite the same. Still good though!
