BlackMK4 posted:Depends on the suspension setup, mostly. BMWs LOVE static camber up front because they have a McPherson strut suspension design up front which reduces camber as the wheel is turned by a large amount. Something like a Corvette with dual control arms up front is able to run a much lower amount of static camber to reach the same dynamic camber as the BMW in a corner because the amount of camber removed by turning is smaller. You see track BMWs regularly running -3.5*+ of static camber. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2D0BHUm2BI Macpherson strut really isn't a good design, but it is easy to package. It gets even worse when you lower the car - the roll center on MacStrut will actually change at a rate faster than the center of gravity, increasing the front suspension roll couple. This causes your roll stiffness to actually decrease even though you are lowering the physical COG. This is why there are lots of roll center correction kits available for macstrut cars, either done with aftermarket control arms or drop knuckles.

That depends entirely on what engine, what generation, what ECU (if different across generations), and what you want to do with it. In some cases the info simply isn't available without spending five or six figures or being a computer engineer with reverse engineering experience, because everyone who tunes some families of ECUs has a huge incentive to bury that info instead of publicizing it. See: early 2000s NA EJ25 Subarus, SBEC and JTEC based RWD/4x4 Dodges/Jeeps, and others. e: (5" lift, 42" Pitbull Rockers, dana 60s front and rear, friend just lost a lot more sheetmetal and replaced it with tube) kastein fucked around with this message at 01:18 on May 14, 2015 |

joat mon posted:Thanks! What should I read on how to modify and control modern computer controlled engines? All the traditional tuning principles apply, you generally just need manufacturer-specific knowledge of how their ECUs function, and the proper software. Tuning a car with a laptop in the cabin beats the hell out of doing it under the hood with wrenches and screwdrivers. More flexible, too. Edit: kastein

JJ and Victor came through town today and were kind enough to stop for a bit. Also the orange-and-white scheme gave me an idea, so I called up the local EMS public affairs rep, who was nice enough to arrange a visit from two Denver Health paramedic vehicles, which I thought made for a great picture.

I hit the little Shelby museum in Vegas today, and they had a couple interesting/rare cars. Camberchat, the TA has -2.5 degrees of camber. I noticed the outside 1" of the tread doesn't read as hot as the rest on the pyrometer, so clearly I need to drive harder.

Mat_Drinks posted:Well gently caress me, I definitely wasn't expecting that. Thanks! I don't know how it works in the M1 but on the Minis there's an equalizing pipe between them so they go level out over time. You can pull up to a service station, park in the middle of the forecourt and stick two nozzles in and then go and pay for each pump separately if you feel like being an rear end in a top hat. The M1 is a legit actual pants-making GBS threads supercar (not to say the Clubman GT isn't but I'm biased there) so it could be next level. I'd be keen to know if the tanks can be kept separate for competition purposes e.g. more fuel in one side for set-up reasons or the pump can drain from one before it uses the other, etc.

I guessed that it was from 1992, it's actually from 1991.
