It was on a generic vendor in one of the lovely towns I was hitting for its noticeboard. I don't have the game available right now so I can't pin down a location other that south-central. It was kind of a bog town up on stilts. Cheap at 350 coins or so.

Welp, looks like I found an embarassingly easy progess-blocking bug.

After investigating the room of the Baron's wife, go to Ciri's room first.
If you pick up the spinning top after you already talked to Gretka in the kitchen, the quest will prompt you to talk to Gretka again, but there's no prompt to do so anymore.

Edit: Phew. Autosaves. I was dreading to replay the Ciri flashback all over again.

Doing the races near the Baron's town also net you decent saddlebags, along with a saddle and some blinders for your horse.

I have found the blinders useless so far but hey it was free.

Sell books after you read them. They're only good for providing monster notes and glossary extras. After you get the info the books themselves are dead weight.

The inventory seems awful at first and yeah it's not great, but after a while it's not really worse than most RPG inventories. Don't stress the gently caress out over crafting components and junk. Crafting stuff tends to weigh just about gently caress all so you don't really have to manage that. You won't really run into a situation of "oh gently caress I sold that horse testicle so now I'll never be able to craft this viagra potion" and you can find most of the crafting poo poo you'll need amongst merchants or a little bit of sensible exploring. If you've already read a letter or book then toss it the gently caress out unless it's a quest item in which case the game won't let you anyway. Finally, if it's in your junk tab then just sell the poo poo. Don't worry about crafting components unless you're looking for particular stuff for something you're wanting to make now.

Does anybody have an idea of what relic level monster ingredients you should not sell if you plan on crafting "x" thing later in the game? Just like in W2 I kept the Griffen remains because I anticipate finding some recipe later that uses it, but more common stuff like relic level monster brain, or relic venom extract, or relic level monster ear, I'm conflicted about selling that stuff. What are you guys doing with that stuff?

It might be par for the course, but I think that RPGs are really behind what they should be in this area. At the very least, all inventory systems should come with the following:

1. Auto sort
2. Filter by search term
3. Filters by item type (or include tabs or both)
4. Separate smart collectibles section like I described in my previous post
5. All vendors should have a sell all junk button
6. If your game has a lot of stuff and includes crafting of some kind then make it fast and easy to salvage/break down that stuff from your inventory screen

I'm not attacking Witcher 3. More like most RPGs in general. This is just one of those features that always gets overlooked but I end up spending a lot of time dealing with on a regular basis. Giving me what seems like unlimited inventory space does not really solve the problem because then I end up sifting through tons of stuff which is still time being spent on an activity that takes me away from the fun aspects of the game, but still it is better than nothing.

I don't sell anything because of OCD, but when the inventory reckoning comes I think I'll feel safe selling anything that comes from monsters with common respawns and hold on to anything where finding another monster of that type is in doubt. Anything over a certain threshold of rarity is probably worth keeping also just to prevent having to go farm for it.

I really disagree. The inventory is one giant blob and there's no way to sort through it. Any time you want something specific, you just have to go wandering about through the mess. It's every bit as bad as people have been saying, but the saving grace is that the only two tabs that actually matter 99% of the time are the equipment and usable items ones.

Also crafting materials should straight up not weigh anything. It's stupid.

Out of curiosity: If you import a W2 save where our anti-hero was equipped with the best armour and swords available to him at the end of the game, will he still possess these at the beginning of The Wild Hunt? I remember that if you imported a save from the first game Geralt would start out with equipment that was named the same as the best pieces from the previous game yet was only slightly better than the default starting gear and considerably weaker than the first upgrades you found in Flotsam.

I'm really not liking the Ciri flashback sequences. She has no abilities, so they're all boring spamfests, and also really easy. The game could just as well been using cutscenes or those nifty hand-drawn story sequences.

I dunno, it doesn't happen to other characters or anything else in the scene. Doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, it's just weird.

Right, so not only did Geralt forget all the alchemy recipes he had learned up to the end of W2, he also threw away all the gear he had acquired. Perhaps the Geralt in The Wild Hunt is actually an imposter who had to assume the role after the original fell into a hole in the ground between games.
