I've seen beautiful dreamer like twice without seeing any of the TV show and it's so good. I would say add it if you're on the fence, it's old enough where most people probably haven't seen it and it's a good introduction to Oshii's themes and style. Or try Angel Egg

I remember seeing Beautiful Dreamer on Sci-fi channel Saturday Anime and liking it, never even heard of Lum till I read/watched Ranma much latter on.

Oldest I've seen is probably speed racer. The stuff my wife grew up with (Candy Candy and 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother) were from the mid 70s.

Dororo is really good, and is getting a DVD release. It's about a man whose father sold all his body parts to demons in order to gain power, so now he travels around ancient Japan killing demons to regain his body. A kind doctor replaced his missing body parts with swords. 5 episode were subbed before it got licensed, enough to give an idea of what the series is about. It has an insane production team, with Yoshiyuki Tomino, Osamu Dezaki, Ryosuke Takahashi, and Yoshiaki Kawajiri all working on it.

Sabu and Ichi's Detective Tales is impressively good for a show that seems like it was made on a couple hundred bucks. It's about a detective and a zatoichi who solve crimes in Edo era Japan.

Basically anything The Skaro Hunting Society puts out is probably good.

That's true. I think my opinion is mostly formed from The Second Renaissance being so good. It's the one I always hoped to catch whenever Adult Swim played it back in the day.

Does the anime end the same way the manga does? And then, uh, he got all the rest of his parts back at once and killed hisdadtheendbye

I think the anime had the full ending, since the manga was cancelled. Around halfway through they start doing original stories. I won't find out until the DVD release, since I didn't catch it on anime sols.

here's an article about Sasuke.

quote:

One of the Sasuke episodes ends with a pack of copy-cat children trying to duplicate the ninja kid’s explosive tricks, and blowing themselves to death in the process, leaving a weeping father to bury the charred corpses.

Old anime is so depressing.

I've been reading Wakabayashi Toshiya's 4-Koma Collection and I think it's a great little collection of vignettes about high school students being terrible at relationships. I think my favorite ones are the chapters with the delinquent and the class president.

e: Actually it's the one where the exchange is done entirely through text messages with both recipients freak the gently caress out over each response.
