SRM posted:Install Nevada Skies, it has dust storms, rad storms, thunderstorms, and you can set it to the "Apocalypse" preset if you really want it to go nuts. I have Nevada Skies. It has multiple problems. 1) It rains more often and heavier rainfall in the Mojave Desert with Nevada Skies, than it does in Louisiana. The 'thermo hygrograph' or whatever that lets me control weather settings, seemingly does nothing to reduce the rainfall. 2) The dust storms are, admittedly, awesome. The first fifty or sixty times you see them (meaning about three hours into the game). Then it gets loving old. Once again, setting it to happen less frequently seems to do loving NOTHING. 3) The thunder is amazing and deep and the best part of the mod. The reason this is a problem is because it makes me put up with 1 and 2 to get some of the best thunder effects in any game. I know. It's just that when I saw the film and saw the wall of dust and the massive fuckoff twister (Not a spoiler, it's in the trailer!) my first thought is 'Christ why couldn't anything this epic and amazing happen in New Vegas'. khy fucked around with this message at 04:43 on Jun 10, 2015 |

Word on the street is that Fallout 4 will include a "low intelligence" dialogue feature but, in a Monkey-Paw twist, a miscalculation makes it so that you need an impossible Intelligence stat (i.e. 11 or greater) to have access to the "normal" dialogue options. Thus, everybody will be stuck with retarded dialogue options and will only partially comprehend NPC dialogue. Then it will be revealed that there never was a "low intelligence" dialogue feature.

Speaking of Fallout 3 stupidity, I made a terrible mistake to clean out my backlog and went back into this mess. The even more funny thing about Fawkes screaming DESTINY when you original try to ask him to flip the switch to the purifier is that when you first meet him in Vault 87, his entire reason to be there is to walk in a lethally irradiated pathway to retrieve the G.E.C.K. for you. Why the gently caress is it not cowardice to avoid toughing that poo poo out in Finding the Garden of Eden but is when you refuse to enter the chamber which has no reason to have a DUMP RADIATION INTO THE LAB button? The answer is Bethesda.

The ship was called the "Sea Bean", and it was a rust hulk that paddled across the sun-scorched Atlantic to settle down in the port of Washington DC. Yes, Colin Moriarty and Tenpenny (he even explicitly mentions the ship) and your dad were on this ship. Ironically, the place they were fleeing, Europe, was relatively unscathed by Nuclear War. Like, basically what we would perceive 1960's Europe to be. I guess people just couldn't tolerate any more socialism.

Because Bethesda games are boring pieces of poo poo where the only fun to be had is the fun you make for yourself. Expecting an awesome set piece like that is asking too much of Bethesda, the thing that they are good at is creating a big open world that only changes due to the player's actions, having something badass that just randomly fucks with things all dwarf fortress style is completely unlike anything that they've ever done. They're in the theme park gaming business, not the open world simulation business, because theme parks make a lot more money and are more consistent.

yeah for me vats was just a "gently caress it" button when i didn't want to bother aiming and shooting. it felt like a much more helpful thing on consoles than on pc.

# ? Jun 10, 2015 10:51 |

The shooting in the modern Fallout games has always been sloppy, even with VATS's many shortcomings ignored. It was hard to utilize cover when the objects had less-than-airtight hitboxes so your gun which was clearly poking above whatever you're using as cover would somehow just have the bullets come out of the grip instead of the barrel and hit the thing anyways. On top of the the ironsights being mostly unclear, crippling limbs being mostly pointless when you can just headshot them and kill them right away, and that half the enemies couldn't aim to save their lives even on the hardest setting and the optimal strategy was usually just bumrushing, which the enemies seem to be aware of because that's also all they do.

I really liked VATS because I'm poo poo at aiming and I get flustered
|
# ? Jun 10, 2015 11:33 |

VATS was great in Fallout 3 because the VATS specific perks were overpowered as all hell and since the awful level scaling turned everything into bullet sponges anyway, it was a nice "gently caress this, kill everything in cool ways" button. It was pretty pointless in New Vegas though since with the introduction of iron sights I just fired manually and enemies were only bullet sponges if you were severely underlevelled or underequipped and the VATS specific perks were nerfed into uselessness.

# ? Jun 10, 2015 11:41 |

I like VATS because I do not play FPS games religiously and I am actually kind of terrible at lining up my shots and compensating for whatever variations are programmed into the games. It's not like I'm sitting there playing Call of Duty or whatever, I'm trying to play an RPG. I don't care about shooting people.

Cardboard Box posted:weren't the ironsights in new vegas just cosmetic and functionally identical to the zoom that was already in fallout 3 It reduces shot spread, reduces movement speed and slows the amount your cursor travels across the screen when turning. The RH_Ironsights mod was substantially composed of cut content with some axis alignments for various weapons. Like in so many other areas, Bethesda is its own worst enemy.
