Crazy Ted posted:Well no that wasn't the only thing wrong. There was the whole everything they were going to do to mitigate the heat, like air conditioning open-air stadiums and creating artificial clouds, which were basically hilarious pipe dreams that they made up. You want to mitigate the summer heat? Build a loving retractable roof and wheel the grass inside. There are number of stadiums that already do this. So, just the heat then.

El Hefe posted:I said rich tourists not poor g.i No it's boring as gently caress. Only one golf course, basic as hell eating, the same cookie-cutter designer shops in the same bland shopping malls. The only upgrade over Saudi is that you can get an overpriced glass of mediocre wine with your overpriced mediocre steak, or drink a shite export lager in a soulless hotel bar. Local entertainment is driving in circles on the Pearl with your Landcruiser to show off. There's a reason why you can catch any one of 31 daily flights to Dubai.

Also theres tens of millions of people in the area who think it'd be pretty epic if someone put a grenade in the ball or the stands.

Houston alone has 5 different stadiums they could host games in. Texas by itself could host the WC as could a lot of other states. That's probably the only issue with the U.S. hosting it. How do you decide where to have the games?

Lladre posted:I would go to Michigan to watch people not die from heat exhaustion. In the US people die during heat waves, even in places like Michigan. It's often elderly and/or disabled people who can't get out of their un-air-conditioned homes to cool off or buy supplies. And homeless people die from exposure year-round, whether it's heat, cold, or drowning in a flash flood.
