BTW A Trip to the Moon is fun and it's only about 15 minutes long. Worth a watch.

I watched the one with the Air soundtrack. It's pretty self-explanatory even without title cards.

I'm pretty sure A Trip to the Moon doesn't have title cards. Like most of Méliès's films it wasn't precisely about the story, anyway.

The color one with the Air soundtrack is a restored version of the original hand colored print and it's pretty awesome.

Hugo is also on Netflix if you want a combination kids movie and Melies film.

Where is that version? I saw the original presented by Melies' daughter at the Musicbox. It didn't have cards, and of course the music was vastly different. I personally didn't like the Air soundtrack on the netflix version.

I fell asleep twice during this last night, and when I finally shut it off there was still a goddamn hour of it left. Plus, Wahlberg and daughters dynamic was fuckin weird, since in any other movie they'd be a couple. Plus plus "The Pill". gently caress off, product placement.

The worst part is all the good actors they got for it. Stanley Tucci, Ken Watanabe, John Goodman, Chris Parnell, Thomas Lennon, KELSEY FUCKIN GRAMMAR. It's like the franchise exists solely to prove that some movies cannot ever be saved by a good cast (Malkovich, Nimoy, etc). I predict the next Transformers movie will star Kevin Spacey and recycled voice clips from Orson Welles' Unicron performance.

So I got the new Netflix redesign today. Am I right in thinking that there's no way to view your entire list on one page anymore? You have to scroll through 5~ films at a time? That's pretty ridiculous when I've got 70+ things on there

This post is a great combo of love/hate movies. I've enjoying my continued viewing of High Fidelity through the years, and my changing opinion of the main character's decisions and views on life. Todd Louiso and Jack Black are great in it. Also it's funny, violent, and the soundtrack kicks loving rear end. I watched half of the new Transformers movie before I just couldn't take anymore. God drat that is some awful poo poo. The sfx are okay, but nowhere near enough to carry it for 3 hours, especially not with a main character dynamic that includes a father constantly chastising his daughter for wearing short-shorts around her 20-something Irish boyfriend, who professionally drives cars around Texas or something. He also carries a laminated copy of the Texas legal code that establishes why his relationship with a 17-year-old isn't a felony. Also the minstrel-bot from one of the other ones makes an appearance.

When I rewatched it a few days ago, I was like "Holy poo poo, thank God I have a stable relationship and didn't turn into the sad old hipster". Transformers Age of Extinction is worth watching to see just how low Michael Bay can sink. There is not a single thing that man won't shill for. Not just painfully bad product placement. Clunky, terrible political propaganda. A Hong Kong security officer actually shouts, “We gotta call the central government for help.” This is followed up a quick cut to Beijing, where the defense minister confidently states, "The Central Government will protect Hong Kong at all costs. We have fighter jets on the way.” Just. Yuck.
