When a million h-games exist, I don't really get why there's any desire to put that stuff into games centered around moving knights around a map to beat evil wizards instead of sex appeal. Although, when they do it, equal opportunity stuff goes a long way toward making it feel less anachronistic and gross.

people like sex appeal, but a lot aren't willing to buy entire games solely for sex appeal. there's also something to be said for the fact that games that have fanservice tend to have elements other than fanservice, while hentai games are usually just porn. a sexy lady that you connect with as a character is going to sell more merch than a sexy lady who has five lines. also, teenagers who can't buy outright porn games, people who just don't like porn but are perfectly appreciative of big titties, etc etc. there's tons of reasons. also i dont think sex is really anachronistic.

You're fine to be upset. Being surprised however is pretty silly. I've unironically seen people who bought bathing suit themed DLC for Fire Emblem Awakening acting surprised that the new game doubles down on that. I'm not thrilled by it when you literally buy bathing suit DLC for the previous game, don't act surprised when that influences what the developers try to sell. I'm not thrilled by it myself and I'm legitimately hoping the translation tones it down but the writing was on the wall for this from the moment Awakening did gangbusters for its Anime Waifu Elements as much as (if not more than) it's tactical gameplay. I'm struggling to think of a Fire Emblem game that didn't have incest. Fire Emblem 4 and 8 had full on blood related incest too though it was more subtly implied in 8, I think every other game does the "not blood related siblings so it's still weird as gently caress but you won't end up with retard babies" shtick.

Also, it's not the sex being anachronistic (sex is universal and beautiful and blah blah) but sex appeal being used front and center in games that is.
