Those Mystic Cobras are rare as gently caress because you can't just buy the paint and do a fake one yourself.Wikipedia posted:In 1996 Ford also introduced the Mystic Cobra which featured color shifting paint manufactured by BASF. The paint was green based and depending on the angle it was viewed, 7 different colors were viewable with emerald green, purple and amber/gold being the most prominent. Two thousand 1996 Cobras were produced with the Mystic paint option (LF), each accompanied by a distinguishing certificate along with the SVT certificate. Because the paint has special proprietary uses, any remaining quantities are very tightly controlled thus requiring a VIN verification through a complying Ford body shop to properly repaint damaged areas.[4]

There's a local new beetle painted in chameleon blue/green. I can't believe someone wasted that much money on a paint job like that for such a shitbox.

This is the worst possible photo, but the Blue Emerald Metallic paint on the '95-96 240sx was a chameleon paint job. It would go between a green and dark purple shade.

All mid 90s Fords were a chameleon paintjob too, they went from hi-gloss to patina to primer over the course of a few years. Light doesn't seem to affect the transition.

90's ford paintjobs are like those toy cars you could get that changed colour with warm water and after a while they just stopped changing colour and ended up a lovely intermediate beige colour.

Slavvy posted:90's ford paintjobs are like those toy cars you could get that changed colour with warm water and after a while they just stopped changing colour and ended up a lovely intermediate beige colour. Yeah, like someone said, they called it "hypercolour" which is what t-shirts that changed colour were called. They also went to poo poo after a while, just like many 90s paint does due to enviro rules and lovely clear coat. Also where are you posting to get your red text? i've only seen you post in history threads before, and it can't be auspol since you're a kiwi.

Speaking of chameleon paint.... My next door neighbor is a 93 year old woman. She has a garage at the rear of her property. This lives in it 1968 Camaro. 454 bored to 512. Custom everything. 980hp without the bottle Runs high 8s I've heard this thing idle for years when it was being put on a trailer to go to a show/track and I finally got to check it out up close. Her sons are huge gear heads. This car was completed in 1999! It's even tagged.

The best one I had was a yellow sports car (can't remember the model) that came with a car wash toy, and looked all dirty normally. When you ran it though the car wash with hot water, all the "dirt" got "washed" away. Absolutely blew my 5yo mind back then.

Owners of early-mid 90s Ford Rangers are going to be so mad when they see this. e: 90s side graphics sure were a thing. Kinda glad they aren't anymore, mostly because the huge variety means it's loving impossible to find a body panel donor that has the same paint code AND the same side graphics. kastein fucked around with this message at 16:27 on Jul 1, 2015 |

The crazy thing about these no one remembers is they had seat inserts that somehow also changed color with light and I still have no idea how they did that.
