This is more so you can get yourself closer to the door so you can get a head-start to mid, which is actually a fun risk/reward balance assuming you're not racing your like-minded teammates to the health pickups.

yes, but that's more rocket-jumping in general than building uber. you can still do that even now that mediguns build uber at max rate before match start and it has nothing to do with force-pulling weapons

I want to laugh at anyone still defending/playing this game seriously but then I remember that I spent nearly 5 years of my life doing the same thing.

I am so sorry that Valve took the only fun shooty mans game in town and turned it into a clusterfuck of cosmetic garbage/beta testing wasteland/bad gameplay balance.

is the weapon pickup/ ammo drop change specific to this new garbage game mode?

also what kind of high school blender tutorial did these skins come from

I feel like valve's inviting me to fluff its hog looking at that. Maybe in a few months there'll be skinned bumper cars too.

no, that change is for the entire game. instead of picking up weapons for ammo you can switch out for weapons on the ground. there is no separate game mode or anything for this poo poo. you buy in and get certain objectives to complete while playing. if you complete them you get fancy weapons.

I can withstand all the cosmetic additions in the world, and even deal with gimmicky beta game modes you have to pay for, but making the spy have a damage reduction when he's cloaked is where I draw the line.

The engineer stuff is weird. Messing with the gunslinger like that deadens the most active/fun way of playing the class, but then all the other changes seem to be encouraging that style. Seems like the mini Sentry is just a crappier version of the real thing now.

I feel like there are some alright ones thrown in the mix:

These are fine.

This is sorta alright.

This is pretty good. Like a less gaudy australium.

This is good as well-a RL with lighter wooden bits in different places and a yellow sight, which I imagine pops more in first person.

Also fine. A more muted, grey-blue SL, although I'm not sure about the texture on the very end.

This one goes in the other direction, but it's not too ridiculous.

There's a lot of poo poo but I for one will be sifting through it to find the stuff I actually want. This update will separate the gunmen from the gunboys, in terms of fashion.

the entire point of the minisentry is to be a crappier version of the real one. it also builds faster and can be more easily poo poo out to do some area denial, something which wasn't touched about it. I'm Pretty Sure It's Not Going To Be Magically Useless Now

also i'm probably going to buy into this crap anyways because i have a job and i'm dead inside

This one. Valve waded into CS:GO's weapon skins system by shipping a bunch of designs ranging from realistic camoflague patterns to gaudy paintball stuff, to cover all bases. Looking at their data, they realized that the gaudy paintball stuff was by far the most popular, leaving the realistic camo that they thought was cool in the dust.

I think the real problem with the mini sentry compared to the regular one is now you can move the regular one around all you want, and even surprise build it pretty darn fast.

I've gotten some really great runs setting up a lvl 3 sentry inside the enemy's zone of control where they weren't expecting it at all. It's like 3 or 4 seconds compared to 1 or 2 for a mini sentry, with the gamble that if you get ambushed you lose that whole build.

If you are like me and play with viewmodels off and don't care about how your weapon looks, none of the skins work with dx8 (which I use) anyway. So that is an easy way to opt out.

The contracts sound like a good excuse to play the game again, and the cosmetic stuff was always a lot of fun in TF2 so looking forward to extending that to my weapons.

An Unusual Medigun would be pretty awesome to have.

So many balance changes, hopefully things feel fresh. It's like there's been no reason to play for two years now. So at least things are being shaken up some.

Agreed. Updates like this and when competitive comes are what'll make me probably come back and play the game like I used to, instead of playing a few games every couple of months like I am now. Most of the good Australian servers I used to frequent are gone now and replaced by Saxton Hale bullshit filled with twelve year olds screaming over the mic, so I'm forced to play on Valve servers where noone talks and there isn't any teamwork and that really killed my desire to play the game regularly.

Me too. I also put an anime sticker on it and renamed it Waifu-seveN.

Those are two things that are still missing from tf2. Stickers and name tags that actually show up on the gun model.

Did you see the part where it's no longer a silent killer? That's a pretty huge nerf to it, at least for all the older players who recognize backstab sounds.

I'm not sure how that's a nerf, considering it was never silent to begin with. I mean, I always assumed that the weapon description was referencing that players who are stabbed don't scream, but the scream was replaced by a super loud and very distinct ice cracking noise that didn't really fade with distance. I can't even count the number of times that I'd kill a spy coming up behind me because he gave himself away with the spycicle noise.
