People keep claiming the past updates have been pretty dire, but I don't think one has hosed up so many things as this one in the misguided idea they would make tons of money out of this contract stuff. Worse, it's probably working too, so they have no incentive to unfuck anything including the crippling of the server browser.

So those cases for unboxing aren't available yet? Because I noticed you can only search for "Craftsman" and "Teufort" collection weaps on the market. You can't search for the ones that come from cases ("Powerhouse" and "concealed killer").

I'm not sure why they added this weapon-pickup system to the game. I can only imagine it's "because CS:GO has it, and that game is making us a ton of money right now". That also explains why they introduced these lovely weapon skins.

The only sensible reason I've seen for the server browser change is to prevent friends from stacking a server and farming contracts. So: can you still invite people to valve servers? If they want to stop that, they'll need to disable inviting, too. Which is loving stupid. Valve is going to tear half of the working part of their game down to try to save a new, broken part. :/

I can't connect to the Valve servers closest to me (Virginia) at all, fullstop now. I used to be able to occasionally do it using the server browser but I absolutely can't do it with quickplay. Even if Virginia servers show up at all (which isn't all the time) trying to join one just gives me "ERROR."

We're agreeing on what they did, and why it sucks. I'm saying they did it to prevent friends blobbing up on Gun Mettle servers and farming contracts. Which they can still do by joining through quickplay and spamming invites to friends. Which means they'd have to disable inviting, too. Or by (as xzzy pointed out) using the Steam server browser. So they'd have to implement the change in the Steam browser, too. That's a lot of functionality they'll have to burn in order to prevent their precious new game mode from being exploitable. Assuming that's the point; as I said, it's the only sensible explanation I've seen. The alternative is that they're being stupid for its own sake. I hope so, personally; at least then they might eventually revert the change.

Is there some secret to using the shield and melee as demoman because I have yet to land a single charge or anything as one. Normally I wouldn't care, but my Gun Mettle thing wants me to do melee kills.

It can do impact damage at any point in the charge which makes it easier to do a follow up kill with the sword of your choice

Also remember that you get a critical melee swing either at the very end of the charge or immediately after shield bashing an enemy.

Doing impact damage gives you guaranteed crits for a brief moment, that's the secret to the Screen's success. E: gently caress you ^^

honestly in my opinion the damage should definitely have dropped, but they should make it have like some dumb long recharge timer (like, 12 seconds). the two problems with the ullapool caber were that once per life/cabinet is kind of a bad mechanic, and it had to have idiotic damage to compensate for it. now why would you?

For the record if I want to play comp match making do I need to buy contracts or does having an old account cover me? I know they want to keep out hackers on low hours f2p accounts but I'm not sure how they will implement it?

The rumour (AFAIK, Star_ said it and he's been to visit Valve recently and knows a bunch of people who do regularly) said to access competitive multiplayer, you'll need to have a leveled up coin. Presumably, this is to discourage hackers: they'd need to spend money and then also play the account for a few weeks.

The item schema currently has a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass, though there's currently no way to acquire one. I don't think anyone outside of Valve knows how they'll manage the final release but the matchmaking beta might just be an in-game store purchase.
