I imagine it was one of the cheaper costumes to make/maintain so they feature it prominently. Call me crazy but I don't think the kid's movie about cheap horror books from 20 years ago was in-line to get a big budget.

I'm pretty sure that like 90% of the success of the Goosebumps books were those awesomely distinctive pulpy painted covers, I get what that poster is going for but being glossy photoshop kind of takes away the effect.

Yes. Fox sucks. Nobody wants to work there (or at least nobody did, now that studio is Sony) and when these came out, everyone had recently quit.

This is great, and it actually conveys the spirit of the series instead of just being another generic YA movie.

I really wish they would have gotten the guy who did all the original book cover artwork to do a poster but I guess that's just too much to ask for these days.

e: Actually what this still needs is a new tagline. "The stories are alive"? Crap. How about this: "Viewer beware, you're in for a scare!" :spooky:

Scott has definitely aged the best out of that group so he could probably still pull off a convincing Buddy Cole.

It probably wasn't what you were going for but I love how faded all the monsters look, highlighting their 20 year irrelevance to popular culture.

Seriously though the covers of old Goosebumps were the best part. I was am such a pussy that when I was 5 I was loving terrified of these books based solely on their covers and descriptions on the back.

Of course eventually I wised up and read a few and realized how completely tame they really were-- far more like a discount Twilight Zone for kids than scaled-down Stephen King--but still. My point is that it's a pity the poster couldn't evoke that same pulpy spirit, although I understand why it wouldn't (soccer moms ain't taking their sentient pelvic tumors to anything that might evoke an emotional response besides hyperactivity and fart noises, but they sure are going to discount Harry Potter/Pagemaster).

They are, but did you ever see the Goosebumps VHS videos from the 90s? Those things were creepy as poo poo, and the type of stuff done in those is not likely to translate into a PG movie in 2015.

The joke is that that was the tagline spoken in the opening of the Goosebumps show.

So it's actually incredibly goddamn fitting.

In retrospect the best thing about the covers is that, in true EC comics/b-movie tradition, half the time the cover had nothing to do with the actual book or was based on a dream sequence they added solely to justify the cover.

Like Say Cheese And Die, which is about an evil camera that makes bad things happen to anybody it photographs yet has a cover of a family of skeletons at a cookout.

I went to an AMC theater a few hours ago to see some garbage movie, but on the way in, I noticed a stack of those Terminator head posters sitting on a table in the lobby with a bunch of other promo materials from other movies and I picked one up. Heads up in case any of y'all want to grab one too. I'm sure it varies from theater to theater but maybe you'll be able to find one too.
