Anyone have a source for this, cause holy gently caress I have tonnes of XP sitting on my destroyers and battleships seem to be a horrible grindy mess. I just want to get to where I can unlock a carrier to try them out, but doing it in the BB hull is going to take me days.

That was for the switch from Closed Beta to Open Beta. Like most free games, Open Beta is essentially a soft launch and everything is permanent from here on out.

So, I keep the stuff I've ground up? Friend was telling me they were doing a reset at launch. Guess if I get to keep it at least its not as bad. I was like, "Spend money to grind only to have it reset? Thats stupid." I wouldn't put it past Wargaming though. And if its anything like tanks, I'll be better to grind early before they add a whole bunch of bullshit tiers in the middle.

I have some questions about the cruiser AA ability.

What ships carry it? People say tier 6, some say tier 5. I heard the Omaha's Hull C has it, is that true?

Does it just do a multiplier of your existing AA values? Does it benefit from abilities/mods which boost AA range?

I started having some better games in it. The extra hitpoints help but the important thing is ducking and weaving out of cover until you're at that 15-10km sweet spot away from someone, where you can actually hit things with your bad accuracy sometimes. Drawing attention to yourself at the beginning of the match out in the open is a no-no, this ship's citadel feels enormous with either of the hulls.

Then when the crowd thins out, you can find a couple of bruised targets and go in for the glory :black101:. You will invariably die a fiery death doing this, but at that point you've taken three or four enemy ships with you so maybe it's justified?

It just increases effectiveness of AA, but having AA range/efficiency skills and modules is very useful when it is active.

It also causes any bomber squadrons in your AA range to lose accuracy with their bombing runs. Manual drops become normal drops, and dive bombers become hilariously inaccurate. Its a very useful skill.

It should only work on planes your AA are shooting, I don't recall if it affects all planes in the range of your AA or not. You can't pop it last second and have it work, though, I know that. You should pop it at least 3-5 seconds before you expect the bombers to make their run, if they already go down for their run their accuracy won't change.

It's tier 6. Somewhere, Wargaming claims it's available on cruisers with dual-purpose secondary batteries. They are lying. The Furutaka at tier 5 has a dual-purpose secondary battery and does not get the ability (because obviously a Furutaka with the AA ability would just be too strong).
It does stack with other AA boosts.

Edit: It does affect all planes in range, or at least it panics them all. I don't know how setting a priority target affects it, but as far as I know even with a priority target your AA will still fire at other planes.

I'm currently using the Bogue, but looking at the Torpedo Bomber and Dive Bomber upgrades, for all the exp you need to spend it doesn't give them a significant boost in damage or survivability, and the Bogue can't take a 1/1/1 load out so you'll never benefit from all plane upgrades. I upgraded the fighters and did the Upgraded damage and survivability.

Is it worth it to just skip upgrading them since I'll get the upgraded planes for 'free' once I get up to the Independence?

I got "some" free gold in WoT a couple of years back. Seems when you buy premium time in tanks it also works with ships. So I only need to buy a couple of doubloons for demounting and garage slots, nice.

Also Arkansas Beta has same module slots as Montana :black101:

I am so :getin: for the Atlanta with the RoF equipment and range/RoF captain skills.

I think this is the first game in a long time where I'm into it enough that I can justify my spending more on it than just keeping premium running. I think the last time was when I bought my Löwe.

Really, my only complaint at the moment is CVs - not that they're bullshit, but the matchmaking they get. They're fine when it's 1v1 or 2v2 but stuff like a 1v0 or 2v1 or any kind of tier mismatch is just really bleh - it makes playing my Langley really unfun. It can also be annoying re: loadouts: If they have more fighters than I do, I'm hosed and vice-versa. If they're a tier higher, I'm hosed (working on the slow-fighter-buff captain skill now, but I doubt it'll make that big a difference). If I had the option to get more fighters on the Langley like I think you could in CBT, that would be great but as it stands, it feels like I'm stuck grinding a stock boat. :(

Does anyone know if Wargaming have said anything recently re: these carrier problems?

As long as its not required for the next ship, you should be fine. The ship won't achieve "Elite" status if you don't upgrade everything, but elite ships don't really do anything so gently caress it do what you want.

Lookit dat XP. The Hatsuharu can actually shoot some things, though this number was hilariously inflated due to the +xp flag and premium. I beat down a Sims and almost killed a Farragut (or was it a Benson?) this match, and then dueled a Myoko I had hit with 2 torps and beached himself and came out the winner (I beached myself too). The turrets are still made of tissue paper, though. Wargaming really should do something about turrets being penned by HE, its pretty ridiculous. I've had 2 games in a row where I rolled in to a bunch of BBs in a tight area, torped at them, and then tried to pew pew at their slow moving guns when a single salvo of HE can pen both my turrets and knock me out of the fight permamently. I may as well dump torps and ram somebody at that point. And I know its HE, I was lit on fire by the same barrage. I've knocked out enemy DD guns with my own HE. Its a nightmare.

Also had a game tonight where a dumbass Farragut on my team decided he was going to "even the odds" when we had a T7 Hiryuu uncontested against a bunch of 5-6s. He then torped the friendly CV. Holy shiiiiiiiiiiit pubbies. If I ever see that nerd again I'm torping him right off the bat.

I have two questions about the modules: Gun Fire Control Mod 2 is 3 000 000 credits and it "increases main battery firing accuracy". Does that mean it decreases shot dispersion at max range and makes my shells hit in a tighter pattern? That would be p good for the Arkansas.

Also what is Target Acquisition System Mod 1 for 2 000 000? 20% max acqusition range. Does that mean I can lock my targets before I'm in firing range (why would I want to do that)?

I refuse to take my Hoshou out of her docks when there's the prospect of getting 2v1'd in the horizon, in return for our team having one more destroyer or whatever. It's already bad enough when a Zuiho can bum-rush you at the beginning of the match with all three of her torpedo bomber squads, and your sole fighter can do very little about it.

What really feels like a gently caress you is when you get outnumbered carrier-wise, and then to compensate for that, the matchmaker gives you... an extra Arkansas Beta :downs: That, or a Sims. There's a lot of Sims out there and usually it's an extra Sims.

Acquisition range is how far you can see overall combined with a boost towards sighting things sooner than you would stock. So if an enemy cruiser is always sighted at 10km, you *should* spot him at 12km.

Don't hold me to this, though. For all we know it might not be working right or at all.

Also, I wish they'd done the full upgrade slot treatment to the Iwaki Alpha as well.

Yes, the firing accuracy mod is INCREDIBLY good. Typically you get access to that with T5 and better ships, so that's one of the Arkansas Beta's advantages (ask orange juche, he dropped a mint on one and pimped it out). It tightens your shot spread, as you said. I cannot overstate how good this mod is on BBs.

Target Acquisition mod... I'm not actually sure. I looked it up, and it seems to increase the range at which ships render on the map (if you've noticed, sometimes there will be empty boxes indicating an enemy ship's presence, but you can't see it if you zoom in to look at it on the map). It is almost phenominally useless, except on the very rare case that your range exceeds your ships view range, and this only occurs on the T9 and 10 IJN DDs, who can shoot torps at 20km, but cannot actually see targets at that range (and therefore, X lock them for a track of their heading). It does nothing to extend when you spot torps, nor when enemy ships are detected, as that is a factor of their concealment, nothing else. Do not purchase.

The concealment mod is only really useful on DDs. Maybe if you want to be a sneaky cruiser you can fit one too, but its a BIG cost to pay for 10% more concealment.

They really ought to replace "plays poorly" in the complaints with "whines about destroyers". I just told some idiot in an Omaha what was up, then when my bone stock Kawachi got sunk by a Farragut, he said "you were saying?" as if it proved him right. A Clemson and the Farragut sprang me from opposite sides about five seconds apart because I sailed into an obvious set trap. I turned into the Clemson's torps, tanked one, sank him before he could do anything, then turned around to drat near sink the Farragut before his second wave of torps finally got me. If I hadn't suffered 3 separate gun turrets putting a shot over and another under him, I would've comfortably killed him, too. In a stock T3 BB.

Atlanta :
Shortish range
Fast turret turn speed
Very high dps with HE
AP is useless
Good anti air
4 short range (4.5km?) torpedoes on each side
About 35kts top speed
No fighter/scout plane

Atago :
Longish range
Average turret turn speed
Average dps with HE
Good penetration with AP (against cruisers)
Average anti air
2x4 10km torpedoes on each side
About 35kts top speed
Launch a fighter plane

Both are kinda squishy, atlanta may have a slightly stronger Armor.

IMO Atago is the Type 59 of this game. It's extremely flexible with decent guns for its tier and class and decent torps combined with better arcs than any of the other high tier IJN cruisers (as far as I've seen). It also gets a scout and is decently mobile. It does everything well but doesn't really excel in any one area.

Atlanta is much more specialised towards murdering destroyers, since it can vomit 5" shells at them and turn its turrets in the blink of an eye. It can put out a lot of damage on other cruisers and oblivious battleships due to its sheer rate of fire and the current (somewhat questionable) state of HE, but it won't fare as well against larger vessels and its torpedoes are almost purely defensive, having no range to speak of. It's essentially a mid-tier US DD that ate its Weetbix and grew up big and strong (but kept the lovely short-range torps). It doesn't play like a proper cruiser.
