I would highly recommend letting Apple do the repair. If unauthorized party does the repair and then you later have a legit problem you are hosed.

AppleCare+ not bought with a device requires an inspection by a Specialist and/or Genius before it can be purchased.

You can do a remote diagnostic, I thought?

That said, if it's liveable damage, still get AppleCare then wait until you damage it something worse, as you probably will do.

e: Alternatively, depending on your model, you could sell it onwards and buy a new one for less than an out-of-warranty repair. :v:

I'm not used to wearing watches, but is it normal to feel uncomfortable wearing a watch and using a wrist rest on my keyboard?

I usually end up having to take it off while I'm at my desk, but that's seems to defeat the point...

Yup. Try wearing it higher up on your wrist if you can, to get it out of the way.

Give yourself a little bit of time to get used to wearing a watch is pretty much all there is to it.

I was determined to get a SS watch on preorder but I backed off when I saw that my order wouldn't arrive until June.

I think I'm ready to get one in the next couple weeks, but I'm not sure if I really need to go with SS. I wear normal watches and I work in an industrial environment, so I usually end up scratching the glass. I figured I should get the SS to prevent this but I'm kind of hesitant now due to the cost and how long I'll have it before I'll want to upgrade.

From reading this thread, it seems like the sports have been holding up pretty well. Has anyone here bought a sport and wishes that they got the SS instead?

I just received an Apple gift card and I think I will get a watch with it, but I am in the same boat. It's super difficult for me to justify getting anything above a sport, but I don't like their look nearly as much as the chrome. These Apple designers know how work people. Plus I feel like anything above a sport warrants me getting AppleCare too.

I'm leaning towards getting the AppleCare just because it'll be out and exposed all the time. Also would give me piece of mind while swimming.

Most people don't work in an industrial environment and don't usually end up scratching their watches. If you do I'm not sure why you would expect the Apple Watch Sport glass to be any different. Yeah it's hardened glass, but there's plenty of photos out of people scratching theirs all up. Plus the Apple Watch is pretty thick off your wrist and the glass protrudes out off it. If you scratch regular glass watches you'll almost definitely scratch your Apple Watch glass.

Yeah, I can confirm that the Sport's glass is definitely not scratch proof. If you want peace of mind, the Armorsuit screen protectors on Amazon work really well and are pretty unobtrusive.

Has anyone else had issues with the Remote app on the watch? I got my watch yesterday and I've been trying to connect the remote app to my apple TV, but when I go through the pairing process the watch dumps me back back to the "Add Device" screen. The apple TV shows my watch in the list of remotes but the watch isn't showing the apple TV. I've tried it with itunes libraries on two different computers and the same thing happens. Is this a known/common issue?

e: I'm running the iOS 9 beta on my phone, could that be the problem?

Has any sort of consensus been reached in regards to quality leather third party straps and/or adapters? I came way too close to biting the bullet and spending $250 on a navy modern buckle today.

There's a wide variety of people on etsy who will make me a strap out of a much higher quality leather than Apple is using for less than half of that... my concern lies mostly in the fit and finish of the adapters they're using.

Edit: Isn't there some sort of "Made for Apple Watch" type of approval available from Apple? Are any companies actually producing those yet?

I think most of the stuff being pitched directly at apple watches on amazon and such are bad cheap crap, but apples leather stuff is also pretty crap as well.
Get some apple watch adapters off amazon and get yourself a nice real watch strap from strapcode or something like that. I got a 23mm black leather deployant and its really, really nice.

So I wound up buying a SS watch and then exchanged it for a sport immediately after it felt too heavy for me. Now I am realizing that my muted group message threads on my phone are in fact not muted on the watch and that really sucks. I will just have to shut off message notifications all together. I hope that gets fixed for sure.

Is there a way to reverse the chronological order of notifications on the watch? On iOS, every time you get a new iMessage, the lock screen of your phone displays them from newest to oldest, so every time your phone vibrates, you can see the newest message at the top of the screen without unlocking/scrolling. On watchOS, every time you raise your arm due to an iMessage, the oldest undismissed message is always at the top and you have to wind the wheel to see the message you just got all the way at the bottom, it's terrible. Takes 2 hands to see notifications when you should be able to just raise your arm to see what's new.

Contrast stitching :(

EDIT: Returned my watch after a week. It looked nice and that's about it. As a watch goes, the faces are all either smaller and harder to read than my cheap Seiko or don't end up looking like a watch. Sure it's "super accurate" but I'm not stressing over losing a few seconds a day. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but it was sending notifications I didn't want, despite having them turned off in the Watch app. I really, really, really don't want every Facebook notification sent to my watch, especially given that they don't actually give any useful information beyond getting a notification. I will grant that might be user error, though. The glances were so slow as to be useless - as io_burn mentioned, in the time it would take to update them, I could have just opened my phone and checked it there, and I had them whittled down to the few things I might want to actively check (Transit, weather, that sort of thing). More than all of that, it seemed like a solution seeking a problem - I just didn't find myself *needing* notifications on my wrist. Maybe WatchOS 2 will make things better, but I think I'll wait another couple generations before checking it out again.

I don't know, I lead a pretty active life... So, loving around outside, climbing, who knows. I don't take inventory of scratches on a daily basis, and I'm not sure why this is offending you so severely that you've managed to read between the lines of me saying my Apple Watch isn't that useful to me to thinking I hate it, but, hey, it's the internet. I guess if you had to sum up my feelings towards the Apple Watch it'd be overall indifference, but I am very happy for you if you like yours please don't let my opinion or experiences change how you feel about your watch.

This doesn't happen for me (not on beta).

On the Watch app, check to see if message notification is set to mirror phone. If it already is, try flipping that group's do not disturb setting on and off.

Thanks. I have tried this after I searched on what I could do about it. Still get notifications of every message. My watch also wouldn't send messages the other day. They would show up on my phone and say they were delivered, but they never were. Tested it several times. Rebooting the watch helped. This is so frustrating to not have faith in it like it giving me every indication it sent a message, but then not actually doing so. I want to keep the watch but if this stuff never gets fixed I'm going to wonder why I did.

Make sure both phone and watch are up to date.

Try unpair and pair again. If that doesn't work, try unpair and pair with set up as new (you'll have to set up all settings, etc again).

Otherwise, it's likely an issue with the software in your phone and you may need to reset that.
