In tournaments, swarms would still be great but the MOV calculation made them bad. However, with the new calculations they might have better showings. It will still be MOV tiebreakers but at least now they have the chance to defeat 100-0 winning Deci/2400 lists.
Where's details about the new calculation? The tourney rules still have the old MoV calculation it seems. I'm assuming the new one is only gonna be used after Worlds is finished?

I'd like to see partial credit for damage on large, HP-heavy ships in tourneys. Say, if a ship has 8 or more combined hull and shields, if you scour it to half health then you receive half of its points even if you lose the match.

The latest tournament FAQ states that pairings across all people of the same match score will now be random, instead of 200-0 vs. 200-0 and 112-84 vs 112-84. Legal July 29th.

Played a few XXX games last night, and rediscovered that X-wings live and die by their dice. Rolled a total of two hits on ten dice to open the game against some Zs escorting a Chewie. Return fire landed four hits (and two crits) from the three Zs against Wedge, who promptly exploded. GG Chewie.

Second game, rolled exactly two hits on eight dice with six rerolls (so, two hits on 14 dice) against another that had two evade tokens thanks to Lando. His return fire took out Luke in one shot. GG again, Chewie.

My 5 TIE Interceptor list (Alpha Squadron + Autothrusters) is the same. I rolled 15 red dice, only two hits, and no damage after defense dice. I rolled 8 green dice (4 dice 2 times), got nothing, and lost an Interceptor. Next round, 12 red dice, one hit, no damage. Rolled 3 green dice, got nothing, and lost an Interceptor. At that point, it's time to really look at your dice and see if someone swapped them out for dry ice cubes.

What's the general feeling on eggs in baskets in XWing? Is it viable to have a couple of decent things and some scrubs to make up the numbers? I was considering this

Kath Scarlet (51)
Firespray-31 (38), Expose (4), Outlaw Tech (2), Ion Pulse Missiles (3), Slave-1 (0), Proton Torpedoes (4)

Syndicate Thug (25)
Y-Wing (18), Proton Torpedoes (4), Autoblaster Turret (2), Unhinged Astromech (1), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)

Binayre Pirate (12) x 2

But obviously that's half my points in a single Slave-1. Would it be better to drop a Binayre Pirate altogether to buy some upgrades for the other ships?

Also Outlaw Tech is really situational so I was thinking of replacing it with Seismic Charges, are Bomb's any good in general? They seem ok as it's guaranteed Damage if you manage to drop them on target.

Expose isn't all that: it takes up an action, reduces your agility and you will probably still hit the same if you had a focus/TL. You might get the focus out of the Outlaw Tech but I usually find that the K4 is much better because your only red moves are K-turns anyway, so if you do the standard 'let people chase Kath' you won't be using it much. I would suggest dropping the Proton Torpedoes tbh and maybe getting an Engine Upgrade instead.

I had just taken Expose for the possibility of the 6 dice Aux-arc shot, but it is quite expensive. I had considered the K4 but I thought it might be limited with the Firesprays dial, but I guess it only needs to work a couple of times to add some real action efficiency. I don't actually have the card for Engine Upgrade

Kath Scarlet [K4 Security Droid, Assault Missiles, Munitions Failsafe] (47)

You should know that Battlefield games have almost never struck a good balance between ground combat and air vehicles. The jets have a floaty feel and a flight model better suited to flying saucers than aircraft.
So, yeah, you're right to temper your expectations

I don't think the "floaty" feel is going to be a problem. It's a problem in realistic games because jet aircraft fly combat sorties at several hundred miles an hour and you can't simulate that accurately in a battlefield game without spending most of their time away from the combat area. They have to fly that fast to maintain lift over the wings (and avoid anti-air ground fire). Gameplay trumps (realistic) fluff. But for Battlefront, the fighters have repulsorlift engines to hover and can use their main engines just for forward propulsion and maneuvering. It's entirely accurate within the fluff for them to fly at much lower speeds.

Also: What I took out of that trailer is that there will be a Fighter Squadron MODE. None of the running around on the ground mixed with dogfights, just pure dogfights. Hell yeah, hell yeah. I'll pay full price for a next-gen multiplayer-only version of Rogue Squadron.

Alright; We're locally going to run a mini-tournament as we have loads of players who are dabbling; They've got enough ships to field semi-complete forces, or those that do generally don't have the practise to excel with them.

All of the regular players have agreed none of us are going to 'Bring the Filth' - My question to you, gentlegoons, is what should I play that strikes enough of a balance between 'bizarre' and 'solid' that I can still have fun, without edging into filth. I've got access to pretty much anything, and by preference I'd rather play Scum, or at least avoid TIE-F and X-Wings because so many newer guys will be playing them.

The simple answer for scum is pick a Firespray pilot (Boba and Kath are both good), put some upgrades on it (push the limit, engine upgrade, and K4 security droid are good places to start). Then for the rest of your points, a pair of Y-Wings with Ion turrets and an mech of some sort (leave off the Y-Wing title at first).

The Firespray is manuverable, packs a good punch, and can take a couple of hits. It's a fairly straightforward ship to play. The Y-Wings are not quite as manuverable as other ships, but they can take a beating, and the turrets mean you don't have to be as precise with your dial picks.

Is the interceptor title really worth it? It sounds sweet, but besides targeting computer my next choice is hull upgrade or shield upgrade, but it seems pretty pointless to try to buff up a 3H/0S glass cannon. Even with both sheild+Hull that's 4H/1S for a total of 5 Durability.

And I should note, this is a unit that gets no missiles/torpedoes/etc., just 1 Elite Talent.

Should I bite the bullet before it and get myself the transport? So I'm entering my first x-wing tournament this weekend! (100 point dogfight) I was thinking of building a x swarm, but what is more important, numbers (with naked ships) or having Missiles/EPTs?

I can squeeze in 2 Academy Pilot Ties , Canor Jax and a Sabre Squadron Interceptor and Maarek Steele in an interceptor for 5 ships at 98 points. But I feel like I should fill that missile slot in the Adv. at least.

The missile slots are rarely worth filling. EPTs are a lot better, and the question of stuff vs more ships depends. I will say the tournament structure favors ships with a lot of stuff on them over swarms.

Several months ago, I entered a store tournament with a swarm of 4 Academy TIES, Backstabber, and your standard Soontir. I came in third out of twelve people. The main reason I did it was because EVERYONE around here was running Soontir and a Decimator, it was getting old fighting the same 2 builds over and over, and swarms can really tear up a Decimator. After that tournament, the number of Decimator lists dropped dramatically around here, so I feel I served my purpose. I got my poo poo rocked by a dual IG-88 list, however.

Swarms can be good against a two ship list, but it requires some good flying so everything can get a shot all the time and lucky dice. Once you lose a ship, it always feel like dominoes falling and there is little that can be done to stop it.

Unless you are playing with the intent to have fun (which you should do anyway) and aren't worried about being netlist tournament winner all the time - in that case swarms can be fun as gently caress. Just starting a cluster gently caress that jams 2 ship builds up a few turns can be hilarious, just to see your opponent frantically trying to get out of a mass of twisted metal (plastic).

Well, I'm hardly expecting to win no matter what I run, since I've only played a few times. I'm still considering running the 5 naked swarm just because it'd be fun to put out as many ships as I can. I'm also toying with a rebel build, maybe Garnet, Farlander and A'Beht (HEB?) damage centric build, but I have a feeling it won't do so well against the meta and the swarm will be more fun at least AND have at least a little better chance.

Edit:

That's one thing I like about the naked build, My PS will be 1,4,7,8,8 with Swarm tactics as long as I keep one of the ties close to the interceptor. I feel that's pretty good for such a large swarm with 3 no-names.
