I'm sure you can see how it makes things toxic if everyone's questioning why people are posting what and telling them that they're doing it wrong if it isn't in line with their opinions about how people should discuss the show though. Like right now. Instead of talking about the show we're posting about posting. Great job all.

If you don't enjoy a line of discussion you can just not join in on it. Imo that's a lot better than trying to shut it down or insulting the people who are enjoying talking about it but that's just me!!

and yes I'm breaking my own preferences right now and I hate myself for it. Kill me. Pull the loving trigger DO IT.

No static at all...
I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't really love this episode. It's fine. I'd watch it before network animated comedy any day, but it isn't what I really love about Rick and Morty.

The flashback thing felt like a midway point between Rixty Minutes and Family Guy cutaways. But the Rixty Minutes segments were ad-libbed (and it showed) and I felt like that just landed better on being surreal. The parasites that got a little development were good, Jerry's plot was one of the best things that has been done with his character. But I didn't really get a lot of the intricacies that a lot of other characters on this show have gotten before.

I get the feeling I'm objectively wrong here. Like the True Detective thread I probably don't know how to watch TV right. The episode did have its moments. Summer's 'yep' was wonderful. Morty seems to be getting much smarter than last season, that's cool. I wonder if, when Rick was screaming at Morty to kill him, he wasn't looking for death again, that would be three episodes out of four he's nearly died.

This episode was a parody of clip shows and the saccharine sitcoms that most egregiously overuse them, down to the "characters are trapped in a tedious situation and must reminisce their way out of it" cliche. Of course, the characters get their way out only through memories that are entirely unfitting for that genre of TV. Jerry is a weak child and would rather live a fiction, but we've already seen that played out in the M. Night Shamylan episode.

You know what would be a cool thing a show like R&M could pull off would be to somehow have alternate versions of the episode that are queued up randomly each time you stream them so the people discussing them on the internet afterwards can never agree on the events.

My guess is that Sleepy Gary was one of the smarter parasites. First he replaced Jerry has Beth's husband giving him an airtight backstory, then when he discovered that Jerry is such a gullible sap (making him the perfect host her a psychic parasite) he started up a fake gay affair with him. He had two very strong fake relationships established, and he even managed to trick Rick into respecting him ("I've known you for 15 years, don't make me hurt you" is probably the nicest thing Rick has ever said to any version of his son in law real or fake.)

No Luck Needed

Ravel Crew
Sleepy Gary exist because it is easier for everyone to believe that Beth is happily married to Sleepy Gary then for all these happy memories to exist with Jerry as the husband. The parasites fake a marriage/gay love affair because that is happier than trying to get all the other parasites to exist in a world where Beth and Jerry are happily married.

I noticed in the intro that Mr. Poopy Butthole was added, along with the butler. I would assume that those happy memories are of the Butler and that Mr. Poopy Butthole was added to further the illusion that everything changing is correct.

Like the way it is easy to discuss Fry’s Dog from Futurama as a great episode that tells a sad story that makes a person tear up, Rick and Morty decided that their “Fry’s Dog” was going to be Mr. Poopy Butthole. “Sorry you didn’t have any bad memories of me” is a super dark and very good twist to a superb story. I suppose you should just always trust Rick, he was correct about six people being in the house. Rick and Morty are the best at taking regular TV set-ups and taking the viewer for a chaotic ride.

The plot from this episode is an almost exact copy of the Torchwood episode "Adam" in which the titular character is presented to the audience as a member of the cast who has been there all along, and he's everybody's best friend. Only people who are familiar with the show would notice the change. Like in this episode, he is an alien memory parasite. I like how R&M took the same premise and expanded it 10000% and used it as a vehicle for hilarious vignettes.

Buffy did it first.
