It's a good thing I'm no longer in Edmonton, otherwise that'd be in my garage in a heartbeat. Out here, every idiot selling their not even remotely important/interesting 30yo UJM wants $3k and they won't take a dime less, nosiree. On the plus side, you can register a bike in BC without going through inspection, providing it's not a rebuilt.

My mother's dead, you monster. Seriously, though, a GS 500 has ... enough power for two wheels, I imagine with a trike setup it'd be getting its rear end kicked at stoplight drags by CBR 125s.

DUMB QUESTION Ran across a decent deal on a SUPER DUKE R. I see the seat's a bit higher than the base model, have slightly more power and look disco as fuuuck. I remember Blais used to own one; anyone have an idea on things to look out for? I see the LC8 could have a slight issue with the cam tensioner or something. Insight at all? Cheers!

The 990? Or the 1290? 1290 is, imho, the best bike available on the market today for street riding. The 990 is a good bike but is only happy when being thrashed, so you have to ride it like a totally hooligan or it's just a anarchy, uncomfortable ride that never quite feels right. You can fix it with tuning and such, but that's a lot of work/money to do right. The 990 engines also have some niggles, which are well known but require some careful addressing/work: http://ktm950.info/how/ktm_950_issues.html

Haha yeah, thisIsolationist posted:He's talking about the 990r, 2010. Unfortunately the 1290 is quite a bit out of my price range, but I should be able to get to a 990. Seems like most of it was rectified towards the end of the run - awesome. For reference, it is a 2010 Super Duke R 990. Hoping to hear back from the dude.

It's funny, I always kind of felt that way about my early 690SM. It just felt lumpy and kind of awkward until you got way on the throttle up into higher RPMS and then it ruled hard. That said, I miss it a lot. This v4 tuono is the poo poo, and everything I was looking for but I really miss being able to jam the rear brake coming down my dirt driveway, sliding the rear end 90° out so it was perfectly lined to back into the garage. I also miss hopping curbs... my favorite hooligan parking spots at my local stores are off limits now *mumbles quietly about husky 701s*

Honda Passports are cool, right? http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/nvn/mcy/5165003470.html I'm thinking about buying to fix up for something my wife could easily learn on, but also for selling on down the road. I am concerned that the mileage on it (33,000km) might be moon mileage for a bike that small. yea/nay? For reference, the asking price is about $600 below market around here. I had a look at it today, and it definitely has ... patina. The exhaust was rusted (not throught), and there was definitely surface rust on lots of surfaces. The engine was very happy and eager to pull, even with someone my size (100kg) on it. I think at the very least, I'd have to get new (or relaced) wheels, new exhaust, a new air filter/breather box (it was missing the top half), and strip/repaint it. My main concern, though, is even if I managed all that on the cheap, would I just be left with an unsaleable/potential time bomb after the fact, due to the mileage? Also, soooo hilariously fun and tiny, but at the same time it didn't make me feel like I was going to die, nearly as much as I felt the one/only time I rode a scooter. Drum brakes all around are umm... interesting, though. The front for sure could use some adjustment. The idle kept creeping up, but I think that was due to the fact that the breather didn't so much exist as the current owner had the bottom half of the airbox with a cotton element just ...sitting ... on top of it.

I guess if it grenades before I can fix and flip it a 125cc chinese repop piece would slot right in? I am sorely tempted by it, and it is deep in impulse buy territory. Should be a perfect project to work on with a brand new (in the next few weeks) baby in the house, riiiight?

Huh, looks like the bike salvage place south of Seattle is actually selling a few bikes for what they're worth for once. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcd/5215734171.html http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcd/5215714376.html http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcd/5215564641.html Kinda wanna naked and sidecar a goldwing, or the DR350 because those things sell for 3x that in working condition. And I get paid tomorrow... Terrible ideas. edit: actually the DR doesn't look like a street legal version, so barely a better deal than usual as long as forks or frame aren't bent. Too much money, I'd shoot for closer to $4.5K as a good deal. They're pretty the only supermoto with ABS out there, but not particularly aggressive. Nice commute or part-time ADVbike. I own one.

Voltage posted:Found this BMW G650X Moto: http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/mcy/5236972474.html Agreed on 4.5k being a good price for it. I think 5k is probably the upper limit I'd pay for one of those. I have an xchallenge which is mostly the same bike and really love it. That one has been for sale for a long time (like all summer at least) so I would guess he's not all that flexible on price. Extras look like tail tidy + rear blinkers, hand guards, mirrors and exhaust. The two caveats I have for you are 1. there is an issue with the clutch cover not having a steel bushing/being made of aluminum. Here's a good summary of the issue and the fix: http://mattsnook.com/bmw/bmwXCountry/ClutchSideCover/index.htm I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but I'm having to replace mine with only ~9k on it and it sucks. That said, lots of folks have gone much further. You just need to be aware it's an issue and if you want that bike you can use it to negotiate. 2. You need to replace the stock shift lever. It's too hard so if you hit it when you fall (not that you'd ever fall on a sumo...) it can bend the shaft coming out of the motor. The fix is easy as you can just buy a wr250f shift lever like this one https://www.thumpertalk.com/shop/Moose-Racing-Steel-Folding-Shift-Lever-YA-19-p4163403.html and it slots right on. Again, if you want to read more this site is a good resource: http://mattsnook.com/bmw/bmwXCountry/GearShiftLever/index.htm

I've seen that bike at the local annual ride-in show, I guess a regional chain of dealers (Cycle Barn) sponsored the build. If memory serves, nothing really sticks out as a complete bodge, it's a decent looking thing. Who knows how it actually rides, but it's licensed and it gets around under its own power.
