Just got home from seeing Yob and if there are any Ausgoons undecided about catching this tour, DO YOURSELVES A loving FAVOUR. Absolutely incredible show, and Mike is such a nice guy.

Yob is the best. I already have my ticket to see them when they come through Brooklyn, but apparently they added a second show two days later in Manhattan. Giving serious thought to grabbing a ticket to that one as well.

Goddammit, both those NY Yob shows as well as the Boston one are on crappy dates for me. Two workdays and the Saturday one conflicts with seeing Nightbringer at St. Vitus. I am not happy about this. Maybe I'll just ditch work and head to NY early for that Thursday show.

There have been some sweet shows recently, Valkyrie was loving killer at the odditorium a few weeks ago and Valient Thor was pretty badass last week. Black Tusk is coming back at the beginning of September, too.

I've been listening to metal for years but hadn't really gotten into much stoner/sludge until I started reading this thread and listening to the spotify playlist. I want to thank whoever put Satan Worshipping Doom by Bongripper on the playlist because over the last month or so I've been revisiting it a lot and it's become one of my favorite metal albums.

Hell yeah. My boring Esoteric story: back around 2007 I used to run into their then guitarist at doom shows all over the north of England and one time I got a ride back from Manchester in their van (I think I was seeing Atavist, Bossk and Winters in Osaka) . They are a good band and cool dudes.

Back around the same time, I ordered a Metamorphogenesis t-shirt from them, and despite it showing up as available on the website, it was out of stock with no reprints on the horizon. I found that out when, about a week later, I received a package from Greg containing a different shirt from his own collection (European Tour 2005, cool design, black with very dark grey art) along with a CD-R of their OOP demo, an apology letter, and an offer to refund half the money, which I refused...just wouldn't feel right.

I don't know exactly why but it seems like the more miserable and extreme music bands play the nicer people they are.

Sweet, I'm planning on going to Black Tusk, let's try to meet up for a bit, it will be kind of funny if it turns out we already know each other somehow, heh. I'm digging The Mothlight and The Odditorium as newish venues in town.

Some death/doom gets into the same territory though, and it tends to be better quality.

Relapse is releasing The Great Tyrant's last record and Pinkish Black's next record on the same day. The Great Tyrant is something like a new wave Om, with bass, keyboard, and drums. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4Y5MltQZGg After the bass player left, the other two formed Pinkish Black, taking their name from the color of the scene of their band-mate's suicide. They sound sorta like Goblin copping Candlemass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYXr2N7hM6Y Been listening to both acts a lot lately.

Ha, I had indeed forgotten Esoteric, although I've only liked their later albums especially Maniacal Vale. I wasn't saying every other band is horrible, but quite a lot of them are. Evoken have a few great tracks here and there too.

The track that is streaming on Apple Music is really good. The singer has also done some work with Sabbath Assembly, he sang a song on their last album. Giving it a listen now, the guitar tone is very similar to what they used on The Giant. Quite a bit different than typical funeral doom tone but I like it a lot.

So Kadavar's new album owns. One of the best, most consistent bands around, I think. Also, I kinda like The Sword's new album, gonna take a few more listens, but so far I love Agartha/Seriously Mysterious. Also, I'm not sure where to post these guys, but Dead Lord own. They came from the past to rock the future. Very heavy Thin Lizzy influence for sure, but both thier albums are great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV0kY7hmRm4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrbhpY2pfPM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCHyjk0Zp2A

Just wanted to let everyone know I was always lukewarm about Yob And then I saw them live last night and it's not only the best show I have ever been to, it has erased all other top shows from my life forever Holy gently caress. I have never experienced anything like that in my life. Amazing. See them even if you don't like them. It was incredible. I cried.
