When I was 7 years old in 1979, my parents sold their house and we moved. For reasons I have no recollection of we had to go back to the old house a few weeks after the move. The new owners were in the process of moving in. I seem to remember them having three dogs, but distinctly remember a Collie and a Doberman. At some point I was outside with the dogs and tried to pet the Collie. It likely gave a hundred warning signs that a 7 year old would miss, and I ended up getting bit. Nothing bad - no broken skin, just a crying kid. I ran into the house bawling, and when asked what happened I said one of the dogs bit me. The owners were mortified and asked which dog. I was 7. Every Collie was Lassie to me. Lassie is a good dog. Lassie would never do anything wrong.

I blamed the Doberman.

You dog is pretty as Hell and I officially forgive the one that bit me. (And I hope the Doberman didn't get punished or anything. Kids are stupid.)

I rescued a cat yesterday. My first pet I've owned all to myself. Stewie is a very regal lady and meowed at me when I called her kitty earlier.

After half an hour in her new home

Last night

Today

This is her favorite spot. I sleep on that side and she refused to move last night so I said gently caress it and nudged her over. She curled up next to me and stayed that way all night and moved only to boop my nose when I turned over to make sure I wasn't leaving.

She was very quiet yesterday and is now getting mouthy when she feels like I haven't been looking at her enough, which is about every 30 seconds.

I've only ever had dogs, never a cat and I've said the same on occasion - To me, cats tend to have less obviously expressive faces than dogs, so one has to be looking very very adorable / silly for me to really 'see' it. You know when people post a picture of their cat and say how goofy he looks? 9 times out of 10 I just see a cat looking like a cat.

Anyhoo - cuteness!

I wanted to post a few pics of our cats. We have a few...This group is what we referred to as A-Team since they were the original 3.

Samantha, Kitty, Ripley

Samantha, although cute and fluffy is as dumb as a doorknob. Seriously, the most clueless cat I have ever met.

Ripley is a lot fatter now. We named her after Alien because she makes some weird squeals.

And then there is Kitty...he is probably the coolest cat I have ever known. We got him when he was about 2.

I've known a lot of cats just from relatives, and there are some that have a personality that takes them beyond being a pet.

Kitty definitely had that.

Unfortunately he had a rare genetic liver disease that made our time limited.

Still miss him..Love you, Kitty!

Tortie chat! This lovely lady may or may not be a stray. She first appeared after a new neighbor moved in a few doors down, and they leave dishes of food and water (and a cat condo!) on their patio. We call her Tortimer.

She doesn't like to get too close but she looooves standing near our window and howling pathetically

Yeah, people who've never had a cat tend to see them like that. Dog body language and expressions are immediately comprehensible to humans, whereas cat ones have to be learned. If you've spent much time with a cat at all you'll see their adorable expressions but if you haven't you'll just see nothing.

S'one of the reasons 'dog people' claim cats are bland loveless things.

Plus they can be very different between different cats, whereas dogs have more universal ones. I know all three of my cats have very different tells for what they want, food or pets or to turn on the sink or whatever, and two of them are very expressive where one needs to be mostly guessed.
