Not surprising at all but I'm a bit bummed Unexpect broke up. I had just gotten into them a couple months ago :( Dismissed them as being too random for a while but they're actually very good songwriters.

Aw that's a bummer :(

I don't usually black metal but this month's "new poo poo I want to listen to" playlist has a lot of black-metal-adjacent stuff: Myrkur, Lychgate, Crown, etc. I'm loving it.

I'd say that's pretty fair, yeah. Though maybe with a bit more thrashiness.

Wolfheart - Shadow World finally released on August 21st. Finnish melo-death from the Black Sun Aeon/Before the Dawn dude, mostly done 1-man band style, with some great song writing. This album is not as good as ( or maybe not as memorable as ) Winterborn but what can you do. I'd link a different video from the one I did before but they don't have anything else on YouTube, the album is on Google Play Music, Spotify, etc.

If you like Protector, give Phidion a listen. More on the death metal side, less sheer ferocity, and the demo quality won't bother you if you like Protector. The band seems to have actually taken a step up since Martin Missy left to reform Protector, just coming together as a whole.

Yeah, it's a live tape. The EP is a bit sterile as a studio recording.

I only just found out Iron Maiden have put out something new, I'm glad, their last album was pretty dire so I didn't want them to go out on that note. It's pretty standard Maiden fare as people have said, and Bruce's voice is clearly shot at this point (though considering his recent issues that's no surprise), but if the new album's more in this style and less tedious proggery then it's all good.

Dyscrasia posted:

Sounds like Maiden is doing another no prayer for the dying to me.

The beginning briefly sounds like the intro from Hooks In You, you can't really get anything else out of it. I guess you mean it'll be another album of short songs, but for one it's longer than practically everything off that. Not that I'd mind another No Prayer, I'm one of about three people who enjoyed that album.

I did what I should have done in the first place and Googled it:

code:
Disc 1
1. If Eternity Should Fail (Dickinson) 8:28
2. Speed Of Light (Smith/ Dickinson) 5:01
3. The Great Unknown (Smith/ Harris) 6:37
4. The Red And The Black (Harris) 13:33
5. When The River Runs Deep (Smith/ Harris) 5:52
6. The Book Of Souls (Gers/ Harris) 10:27

Disc 2
7. Death Or Glory (Smith/ Dickinson) 5:13
8. Shadows Of The Valley (Gers/ Harris) 7:32
9. Tears Of A Clown (Smith/ Harris) 4:59
10. The Man Of Sorrows (Murray/ Harris) 6:28
11. Empire Of The Clouds (Dickinson) 18:01
Oh dear lord. Then I go and read that Tears Of A Clown thankfully isn't a Smokey Robinson cover, but it is dedicated to Robin Williams. I feel like all my April Fools Days have come at once.

It sounds like that you've taken a liking to the subset of brutal death metal. I'd suggest...

Severe Torture, Centurion, Atrocious Abnormality, Lust of Decay, Coathanger Abortion, Devangelic, Foul Stench, Necrotic Disgorgement, Ton, Deeds of Flesh, Condemned, Disgorge, Gortuary, Incestuous, Gorgasm, Human Filleted, Mortal Decay, Defeated Sanity, Cerebral Effusion, Execration, Guttural Secrete, Odious Mortem, Parasitic Extirpation, Splattered Entrails, Suffocation, Vile.

Also, what albums have you heard from Cattle Decapitation, because they have changed drastically from a boring Carcass-ripoff to a punishing melodic death metal band.
