Not surprising at all but I'm a bit bummed Unexpect broke up. I had just gotten into them a couple months ago Dismissed them as being too random for a while but they're actually very good songwriters.

Aw that's a bummer I don't usually black metal but this month's "new poo poo I want to listen to" playlist has a lot of black-metal-adjacent stuff: Myrkur, Lychgate, Crown, etc. I'm loving it.

If you like Protector, give Phidion a listen. More on the death metal side, less sheer ferocity, and the demo quality won't bother you if you like Protector. The band seems to have actually taken a step up since Martin Missy left to reform Protector, just coming together as a whole. Yeah, it's a live tape. The EP is a bit sterile as a studio recording. https://phidion.bandcamp.com/

mitochondritom posted:The music video is up on their Youtube channel: I only just found out Iron Maiden have put out something new, I'm glad, their last album was pretty dire so I didn't want them to go out on that note. It's pretty standard Maiden fare as people have said, and Bruce's voice is clearly shot at this point (though considering his recent issues that's no surprise), but if the new album's more in this style and less tedious proggery then it's all good. Dyscrasia posted:Sounds like Maiden is doing another no prayer for the dying to me. The beginning briefly sounds like the intro from Hooks In You, you can't really get anything else out of it. I guess you mean it'll be another album of short songs, but for one it's longer than practically everything off that. Not that I'd mind another No Prayer, I'm one of about three people who enjoyed that album.

I've been a massive black metal fan for a long time but have recently started getting into death metal...I don't know much about the death metal genre though. So far the bands I really like are Prostitute Disfigurement and Corpse Molestation also I really like Cattle Decapitation, can anyone reccomend some stuff similar to this?

Oh man there's a ton of great metal in that vein. I'm not awake so I'll leave most of it to people who are conscious, but check out the first 2-3 Cephalic Carnage albums. Also Cryptopsy and Decrepit Birth.Detective Thompson posted:Don't know if this got posted yet, but Immortal Bird's Empress/Abscess is pretty good. I've been describing it to friends who might be interested as "blackened sludge."

It sounds like that you've taken a liking to the subset of brutal death metal. I'd suggest... Severe Torture, Centurion, Atrocious Abnormality, Lust of Decay, Coathanger Abortion, Devangelic, Foul Stench, Necrotic Disgorgement, Ton, Deeds of Flesh, Condemned, Disgorge, Gortuary, Incestuous, Gorgasm, Human Filleted, Mortal Decay, Defeated Sanity, Cerebral Effusion, Execration, Guttural Secrete, Odious Mortem, Parasitic Extirpation, Splattered Entrails, Suffocation, Vile. Also, what albums have you heard from Cattle Decapitation, because they have changed drastically from a boring Carcass-ripoff to a punishing melodic death metal band.
