RMT poking me every day like "Hey, there is a new player, I'll bet he actually has something he wants to spend a million gil on!" It's kind of adorable. It did get me thinking though, it doesn't seem like gil is ever a serious issue in this game, especially compared to FFXI. Other than super rare glamour items, is there anything people spend gil on that hurts their wallet to the point they have to watch it?

RMT spam in this game is incredibly annoying.

To answer - Once you have a million gil you're pretty safe in the game if you don't want to level any DoH/DoL/Desynth or do melding. You should have enough for food, repairs and teleports.

Afterwards it's all cosmetics, and the amount of gil you need to do anything scales up pretty quickly. In your 1m budget you can buy a private room and decorate it for 400k-600k. Outside of your range, the cheapest thing you could do in theory would be either making a cheap zodiac weapon or buying a small house, which you can't because there are no small plots. So you're forced to buy it from someone reselling one, which bumps the price up from 4m to 8m-15m.

Select pets can range wildly from 300k to 10m. The average pet price will likely inflate when Lords of Verminion is out.

Leveling DoH/DoL is anywhere from 10m to 50m depending on when you're doing it, how you're doing it and how far you're going with it.

High-end glamour is anywhere from 10m to 100m depending on what you're buying and when you're buying it. House decoration goes up to 100m too if you're including a large house.

Last but not least, airship crafting is a bottomless pit of gil where your money goes to die. Also, it's possible to go ham and spend 100m-300m on DoH/DoL in a mix of gearing/looking good.

What's the go-to source for lazy money-making in heavensward (meaning, anything other than endgame crafting or gathering)?

Is spirit bonding still the way to go, and if so, where's the best place/gear to do it in?

Shame that ixal dailies don't really give much Gil anymore, I liked those.

Yesterday someone in one of my linkshells was asking if gear mattered at all when sending out Fishing retainers out to attempt and bring back a Gestahl.

Apparently this shows it doesn't, as my fresh level 55 fishing retainer, which just barely met the requirements for the level 55 venture, brought me back this this morning:

Pretty sure that gear only affects the retainer's ability to get certain items from quick venture, and the number of items they bring back from regular ventures.

Hardsilver nuggets go for decent money (~6k per, on exodus anyway) for the amount of effort required for them (read: next to none).

Early in the expansion you could run group maps and sell the leather and silk used in Thavnairian stuff for a premium. It's not as profitable anymore.

Every market crashed right now I believe so there's no huge money maker as far as I'm aware. What is the scale of gil you're looking for?

Yeah, I have a bsm at 50 so I was thinking of leveling a miner a little bit so I can create ingots from ore...casually glancing at the MB, it looks like there might be some money in that.

I don't have any specific goal to be honest, I'm just looking for a way to make a little Gil if I need it in the future. I'm alright with money for now but it's only a matter of time until my pretty princes dark passenger takes over and I blow it all on glamour.

I would say casually level miner and BSM to 60 then and craft stuff with a decent profit margin. You won't be rolling in gil but you'll at least have one DoH and one DoL ready for the next content patch where new opportunities are bound to arise.

To elaborate on this between leveling my DoH classes and spending on the airship I've probably spend 4m and 30m gil respectively at this point in materials.

Someday the major work of leveling and airship building will be done and I wont be broke anymore :allears:

Sure, but he said he's not looking for some hardcore endgame crafting/gathering and there's no big money maker at this point in the game. I haven't checked but there's probably a few 200-400% profit margin stackables he can craft in the meanwhile to make some low-risk gil while the market is cold.

As for the translation:

Culinarian holds the majority % of DoH classes leveled to 60, so I imagine some of these Culinarians are people who only do Cooking. Excluding CUL, WVR GSM LTW as the three first isn't surprising at all as they were the big money makers in ARR and the classes that could make gear for other crafters. GSM got brutally shafted so I wonder how many of those GSM specialists aren't wishing they had picked BSM or CRP.

GSM was kind of ridiculous in 2.x and it makes sense they'd dial it back a bit, it's the only crafting class I ever really cared about or found useful as someone who never really got into endgame crafting. I mostly use it for desynth and doing middle stuff to make money.

That said, is there anything that's looking particularly good in 3.0? I've been levelling LTW desynth as it seems incredibly useful this go-around, but it's been kind of clear that they're not going to let GSM continue to be way more useful than everything else.

If you're primarily a DoW/DoM GSM is just fine for right side. LTW is Gatherer right side and CRP is Crafter right side

Oh yeah, GSM was completely stupid in 2.x and it definitely had to be nerfed somewhat. The problem is that their idea of balance seems to be to take the average over time of how good a job is, so GSM went from 100% good to 100% bad instead of being balanced. In the real world you're not gonna sell any high-end GSM item until the next patch, so we're hoping that the new recipes they introduce are good.

As of right now, WVR, LTW are the best. ALC and CUL are good overall but have completely useless specializations. I'm not sure anyone sold a BSM 2 star yet so I think BSM is not in a great spot right now, but BSM was god-tier during early HW when all the tools currently costing 90k were selling for 1m-2m.

CRP in theory should do good but, again, I haven't seen any with success stories.

There is a 57 questline involving an Ishgardian scouting party that starts in Ishgard and a level 59 one involving Twelveswood moogles starting from a letter carrier outside the Fortemp manor.

Both aren't bad questlines assuming you can fly. The scouting one gives you a gatherer materia 4 so its worth like 100k gil too.
