On Labor Day we honor the struggles and victories of the working class. Haha sike it's another opportunity to circle jerk about who loves Are Troops more! Because all restaurants and stores are closed on Labor Day, right? Or are their employees not worthy of your respect for some reason? Anyway if you want more self fellation about military worship @FanSince09 is retweeting a lot of similar posts, it's a goldmine.

Yeah, all those strikers and union members got beaten, blacklisted, and straight up murdered for shits and giggles. EDIT: God, this is the most infuriating day of the year. It's not enough that the US whitewashes the history of labor and business or that people cheer the destruction of unions and happily eat more and more poo poo from ~*job creators*~. Now we have to suffer the one goddamn holiday for workers being co-opted for ARE TROOPS and sucking Business' dick. 1stGear fucked around with this message at 18:20 on Sep 7, 2015 |

Henry Ford did pay his workers pretty well, but the main reason he did so is he wanted his workers to be able to afford a car so they would buy one and basically be free marketing. It wasn't because he wanted the best talent.

I can't wait for literally every holiday to become about are troops. Remember this Martin Luther King Day the sacrifices our soldiers made in passing the Civil Rights Act. While you're trick or treating, remember to thank our soldiers who died putting down the skeleton rebellions. On this day 2000 years ago, Are Troops were crucified under Pontius "Hussein" Pilate and they suffered and died for Are Freedoms.

It wasn't because he wanted the best talent. Henry Ford believed in what he called "benevolent capitalism" where you paid the crap out of your workers. It was also his belief that a worker should never be forced to produce something that he himself could not afford. He was still a poo poo bag in a lot of other ways but he wasn't nearly as awful as the other tycoons of the era either. He even said "there is one rule for the industrialist: produce the best goods possible, for the lowest price possible, paying the highest wages possible." Granted he also hired people to make sure his workers weren't getting drunk, ever, and was in fact anti-union but he wasn't ALL bad.

Someone mentioned Australia, articles on migrants and crazy comments so I went digging. http://www.smh.com.au/national/racism-on-the-rise-in-australia-migrants-report-cultural-shift-20140405-365a5.html quote:Yes, it is a natural human reaction to object to having your territory encroached by another group. quote:Funny, I have lived elsewhere in Australia and have only seen active racism in Melbourne towards Asians by working class locals in the early days of university here, and in the recent decade from members of one post-war immigrant group to another. quote:All Australians labeled as racist quote:I guess when it comes down to it we all have our personal thoughts/beliefs/preferences and so essentially we're all racist, however I believe true racism is something else entirely. True racism in my 67 year experience is the out and out hatred of someone because of the colour of their skin or ethnic origin. Personally i don't see a lot of that in OZ though I 'm sure you could find it if you looked hard enough. For those who believe racism is an integral part of OZ society I suggest living in a Boer community or some such for a couple of years and get a feel for what racism truly entails..........what we have in OZ may well be intolerance but it sure as hell ain't racism. quote:And what country is Australia more racist than? the hutus and the tutsi..the Japanese and the Chinese.. the Chinese and the Koreans..the Arabs and the Jews..the Indians the the Pakistani.. blacks against other blacks in Africa..give me a break this article is such nonsense.. how about doing an article within those places..then you will see racism against their own race..Try and become Japanese.. yea right..go and put all the arabs together and see how well they get on.. What country doesn't have racism.. but to suggest that it is only white people that are racist is just plain ignorance to the extreme..

Then I see the response to a veteran asking people to maybe not detonate fireworks in residential areas, or maybe don't send US soldiers into every war forever and I remember the soldier worship ends as soon as it doesn't suit far-right political views.

It's easier to argue "you capitalists should be on our side since this will help us all" than to argue "you capitalists are the enemy and we will destroy you!" Ford's actions, regardless of their motivation, put the lie to the idea that raising wages will automatically hurt profits.

Jurgan posted:Ford's actions, regardless of their motivation, put the lie to the idea that raising wages will automatically hurt profits. I mean, does it? People (generally) aren't paying workers like poo poo out of cruelty, they're doing it because decades of research suggests that raising wages does hurt profits when you can simply, well, not raise wages. You can absolutely run a stable, successful business and pay your employees like human beings, but capitalism very much wants you to maximize profits, not just stabilize. It doesn't matter if your business can do "well enough" while offering fair compensation, because people at the top aren't trying to keep their businesses afloat and have a comfortable life, they're trying to get the high score and win at the money-having game.

Part of his motivation was that employee turnover was very high and it turned out to cost less to pay his employees more. Self-interest was certainly a part of it. Everybody else thought he was insane but he went "nah, watch this."
