Heads up for any Mantic folks - your Forces of Nature section on the official forums appears to have exploded, which is a shame as I was tempted by them (oh god too many armies) and wanted to see what people were using for models.

Smallest base the fig will fit properly on is the general rule. Bigger is a disadvantage unless you're doing some stupidly long/wide modelling-for-advantage trick, anyway, as it makes it easier to get things in contact with you, so nobody will mind.

I'm sorting through my Wave 1 KoW stuff and I'm trying to figure out what the Handler is made out of for the Slave Orcs in the Abyssal Dwarves. There's a metal head and arm, but no body. Are you supposed to use an Orc body? It doesn't match the one on the website.

At least for me the box came with a dwarf command sprue with a torso on which you can attach the head and arm. Maybe that's what you're missing?

Good for a bonus, bad for an included figure. Still seems like we were shorted a dwarf sprue for the slave herder guy though.

There should be an additional 2 dwarf sprue for the Handler, though Mantic seem to be pretty lovely at that detail (wasn't in my Abyssal Dwarf box and I've seen plenty of people reporting the same). Woo, finally found the missing Enforcer from when my cat knocked them all off the shelf. Was annoying, because she was one of my heavy weapon ones. Gotta glue her gun/right arm back on, but that'll be easy! Last casuality of Hurricane Yorrick was one of my three medics. Missing head and right arm. One of the other two medics is fully normal, but the other also lost his left arm to the cattack. I put a spare defender shield on that one, to make a mini I could use as either. This last one, I'm debating what kind of arm to put on. Dry fitting indicated a pulse laser would look good in an at ease pose. With a replacement head that could be a 'character*' heavy weapons enforcer. Alternatively, I could use a spare pistol arm or sword arm and just have it be a medic. Thoughts? *No rules difference, of course, except maybe giving her an item. EDIT: I forgot there was a hand sculpted onto the heavy weapon for the left arm to connect to. I'd have to remove that if I did the pulse laser version. Hm.' EDIT2 also argh I missed the deadline (by a lot) to submit to the story compendium. Oh well. Should've paid attention to the updates! Speaking of, drat Kalyshi are buff. Loving that. Also Hrund looks great. Glad I grabbed a second of the single figures booster! And reading back in the thread: Macdeo Lurjtux posted:To add to what was already said, the kickstarter exclusive model for the latest campaign was a not-samus aran. Other non-standard paint schemes I'm doing on specific enforcers include Sgt. Howlett in silver/red as Miki Talora, my human vanguard from ME3MP; the two-sword one I built in black/purple as Tina Avanar, my N7 Shadow from ME3MP, possibly taking a stealth cloak on her in gameplay (if that's at all worthwhile); and SOMETHING but I'm not sure what on the two-pistol assault enforcer I made. Isn't there a two player box set coming out soon? I don't need yet another army for a game I haven't played, but aside from the neatly trimmed beards I like the way the mantic dwarves look and wouldn't mind having a third, small army that I could use for quick games to get other people I hang out with interested. I also understand there's a way to get a neat little metal necromancer with it, but I couldn't find it on the mantic website. Is this retail only, and if so, are there any online retailers who carry it in the US (or cheap shipping from overseas)?

It's Dwarves vs Undead, called Fall of Ironhold, and I'm assuming they'll stick it into the hands of as many retailers as possible. The necromancer is a retail only exclusive, comes in the box by default I believe, no matter where you buy it from. It's to distinguish it from kickstarter exclusives, and make retailers feel more loved.

Which unit(s) in the Elf list are the Elven Scouts supposed to represent? Also looking at the rules, I don't see any mention of skirmishers, so I'm assuming that showing them in a skirmish formation is actually just artistic license and in play they form a normal troop or regiment formation?

In the KoW list, they're Gladestalkers. They have the ability to basically ignore difficult terraint and start the game with a free Advance or At the Double! movement. Yes, they'd be ranked like other formations.

If anyone is in the Seattle area, I'm going to try to get down to Card Kingdom next weekend with a small elf army to play some random dude off of the game store's facebook page. He says he wants to try to get a lot of kings of war stuff going on at the store, so it'd be cool to have some more people show up. The game seems like it would be quick enough to get a few games in, as opposed to 40k where I could easily hog a table for a whole morning or afternoon for a mid sized game. I'm really looking forward to playing a minis game with good rules.

Just wrapped up a game of Deadzone with one of my coworkers. My marauders vs his enforcers at 70 points Marauders -Commando Captain -H.E.W. Guntrack -Commandos x 4 -Mawbeasts x 2 -Goblin Sniper -Pyro Commando Enforcers -Sargent w/ frag -Sniper -Enforcer w/ ammo -Enforcer w/ glue grenade -Engineer w/ sentry gun Turns out our mission cards were almost the same. Both of us had to maintain objectives with X being a control objective. He had kill leaders and specialists as his other goals with mine being kill everything between 7 and 13 points. Deployment ended up being the 1x8 stretch on either side of the board and a good scattering of items. Since we're playing at the boardgame pub we work at, we've been making the "?" item a pint of choice for the taker. I was worried with him taking so many items, but turns out enforcers don't have 'scour' for -any- of their mission cards. He probably could have gotten better use out of some extra bodies though. I really just had too many priority targets close up for him to choose from, while keeping my commander tucked in a corner. I didn't know his mission to kill the Captain, I just know Cap's combat stats suck and tucked him off to the side gathering items. His sniper had 8 8-sided dice to roll at 4+ to take out my gun track and only managed 3 successes, which ended up being a running theme of the dice hating him from there out. My goblin sniper was death to anything it looked at, but the guntrack only really ended up being intimidating instead of deadly. Last game his sentry gun was practically MVP with his overwatch rolls letting him react before I did, then pinning everything in it's sights. This game it had one good moment of suppression fire which I ended up negating with a battle card anyways. He ended up making a bad move partway through the 3rd turn where he activated everything he had when I still had the majority of my forces to still activate. It was a high risk move with him burning through battle cards to try and turn things around, but the dice just wouldn't cooperate at all. My mawbeast tore through his sarge then another enforcer in the free move wiping out the majority of his forces. We called it with only a mawbeast and pyro commando dead on my side, and everything but one enforcer on his. I keep trying to point out my goblin sniper is a glass cannon that should be dealt with sooner than later, but he's grown a healthy fear of my mawbeasts and the AP6 cannon on the wartrack worried him more than it should. While we find 70 points is a good base and campaign amount, we both really want to play with some of the more pricey toys so going to try a 100 point match next. Might haul out the Asterians for that run if I can get a few more painted up in time.

Deadzone is indeed a lot of fun, I'm gonna play it again net week! In Kings of War, still missing some resin conversion pieces from A Mean Cow, god tier terrain goon, and another mammoth and two Aurochs from Acheson, but couldn't wait any longer for the big group before-photo, as I need to get started Batukhaguran's Dawnstar Shock Company (name is a work in progress) The Deinotherium (huge elephant) plus war wagon turned palanquin, ballista, some scorpions, and a crack company of goblins are going to become a Mammoth with Ballista. The Paraceratherium (huger camel) plus hay cart, turnip cart, a couple scorpions, some Hirst bits from A Mean Cow, a wooden mast, some chains or rope, and a fearsome Ogre cap'n and his goblin crew are going to be an Army Standard on chariot. The Mammoth (posable metal tusks not pictured) is as is, a Mammoth; the Woolly Rhino, along with a pole weapon made out of Ogre weapon parts and a skewer, is going to be 'chariot' for a captain. The Brontotherium, along with a big pole weapon made out of Ogre two-handed weapon parts and a skewer, will make an ace 'chariot' for a Warlord. The Daedon, Bison and Aurochs are going to drag the actual regular Ogre chariots, one animal per chariot. Bottom left corner are a trio of hand carts, with some specific Hirst bits they'll become Red Goblin Blasters. Most of the Goblins are going on regiment bases, with a cool idea I've had using my long grass basing scheme from the already completed units, some hirst decorations, and my own skill at portrait painting Goblin scouts remain an unpurchased concept currently. Leaves me with a leftover Mammoth and Rhino, but I'll think of something! All of these things fit on the bases they're meant to as well. What's that Batukhaguran? It's go time? It's fuckin' go time NTRabbit fucked around with this message at 14:39 on Sep 9, 2015 |
