ROLL INITIATIVE!!

Has anyone considered using the HWK-290 (rebel) as a focus factory for a Poe T-70/Jake A-Wing list?

I feel like you could get some absolutely ridiculous maneuvering out of something like this:

Kyle Katarn (21)
Blaster Turret (4)
Recon Specialist (3)
Moldy Crow (3)

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Proton Rockets (3)
Stealth Device (3)

Poe Dameron (31)
Push the Limit (3)
BB-8 (2)

Total: 100

The list is quite squishy though. Not many evade dice (except Jake).

A wolf was no less a wolf because a whim of chance caused him to run with the watch-dogs.

Not shooty enough. The HWK will die on the first round of shooting and you will have even less damage output.

I'm going to paint a line of minis in a classic '80s anime/comic book style. I saw a bunch of gundam kits that have been done in the 2d cel shaded style. Meanwhile, I've been getting burned out by the tediousness of blending and want something much faster and sharper for a few minis and think this might be a great compromise (there's some blends for the shadow effects but not as much). I'll probably use the tie fighter anime short film as inspirations for drawing shadow lines.

I think this is probably gonna look better overall anyway since the ships are really tiny and the sharp contrasts will be visually distinctive. Most of the blending I tend to do can't even be seen unless you look closely. I think the comic book look suits star wars better.

E: if anyone here knows where I can find images of ships from any of the new comics series, I'd appreciate it.

Yeah it basically is gonna come down to Poe and Jake to do it all and in all honesty neither of them need the free focus- jake's focus action is really good and Poe's already got PtL.

Rather than just having a build with the decimator, i've decided to do a build centered on my 2nd favored ship, the interceptor.

Keyan Farlander (54)
B-Wing (29), Fire-Control System (2), Autoblaster (5), Ion Torpedoes (5), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Push the Limit (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) x 2
A-Wing (19), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Expert Handling (2), Stealth Device (3), Veteran Instincts (1)

Keyan isn't as maneuverable as Dash and he only gets a pseudo-focus instead of Kyle Katarn but I think it could be a fun list. The A-wings would be for harrying everything else but I'm not sure how effective they would be.

I was running the focus throwing HWK for a while, but like you said it' squishy as hell and what happens is the opponent kills Kyle first, ruining the plan. It's fun, but doesn't seem very practical to me. Then again, I suppose no matter what type of pilot it's probably going to be a support role (for example using Jan) and a prime target for attacks since it has to be close to support.

Speaking of SLAM, I want a miniature of the Assault Gunboat so that I can do a gimmick game of "X-wing vs TIE Fighter", a 5v5 of all the playable ships from the XvT PC game.
I'm okay with the TIE Advanced subbing in for the TIE Avenger, but I do want a mini of that, too.

The problem with HWKs is that you pretty much have to buy a turret and then their value drops like a rock as they eat into your list. There are some HWKs with strong abilities but it's very tough to keep them cheap.

I'm hoping that the turret that comes with the Ghost is cheaper but not hamstrung like the blaster or autoblaster turrets.

I don't think we'll be getting the TIE Avenger anytime soon. We have a poo poo ton of TIE variants already, and I don't think it would have a role beyond what is already fulfilled by the Defender or TIE Advanced.

On the other hand, we're getting another TIE Advanced which is almost identical to the first, so uuuh...

Could someone confirm something about Proximity Mines for me?

My understanding is that if you drop one right on top of a group of ships, the mine still only affects one of them. And the person who dropped the mine gets to pick which ship is affected.

That sound right?

Had another fun kitchen table game last night. Didn't max it at 100 points because we didn't want to stay up too late. Not min/maxing the lists, and this is the 4th or 5th game we've played so we're still getting familiar with the concepts.

A-Wing Prototype Pilot / Keyan Farlander w/ PTL / T70 Blue Ace = 76 points
Darth Vader w/ Squad leader / Tetran Cowall / TIE/fo Omega Ace = 75 points

I played the Rebel list.
Things I learned:
Imperial side had PS advantage AND initiative due to points. So each turn Darth Vader/Tetran/Omega Ace were all moving last and shooting first, which was really nasty from a positioning/arc dodging perspective with Darth Vader handing out boosts and barrel rolls to his buds. My opponent was also effectively using those boosts and rolls to position behind obstacles, which was pretty clever. I also got surprised with a 1 distance K-turn from Tetran while I was pursuing him with the A Wing.

The PS2 A-Wing was pretty much useless in that list. Only rolling 2 red dice against 3 targets with a natural 3 agility was not very helpful.
The game ended with Blue Ace being clobbered by a range 1 attack after a turning/positioning battle against Vader and Tetran. Both of them were without shields, and with 2 hull damage. It was really close all the way to the end, which made for a good time. Close games (regardless of who wins) makes it more likely that my wife will have fun and thus continue to enjoy playing together :v:

I think the Rebel list would have benefited more from bumping the points up to 100 and thus being more competitive on pilot skill.

So the move order when Imperials have initiative would be:
PS2 AWing, PS5 XWing, PS7 TIE/fo, PS7 TIE/Int, PS7 BWing, PS9 TIE/Adv
Instead of:
PS2 AWing, PS5 XWing, PS7 BWing, PS7 TIE/fo, PS7 TIE/Int, PS9 TIE/Adv?

Lowest PS moves first. Any ties (:v:) are won by the player with Initiative so they will move first. Once everyone has moved, you start combat, beginning with the highest PS, going down. Any ties are won by the player with Initiative so they will fire first.

So your B-wing would have moved after everything but the PS 9 TIE, and fired after every single other TIE.
